Interested in cruising suggestions

Karma G

Hello Folks,
Looking for suggestions.
We are planning on trailering KarmaG to various locations throughout the lower 48 over the next few years for week long cruises. We are looking for waters with nice marinas that would serve as base where we can day cruise out of as well as do some land based day trips. Familiar with the MN, WI, IA and Tampa Bay areas so looking for suggestions for other parts of the states. Favorite bodies of water i.e. lakes, rivers, near your home port or places you have traveled through would all be welcome.
Thanks,
Terry

The best thing you can do is go to Bill and El's Cruising America web site. They've been all over in their 22 and have documented their cruises on their web site. Their posts are extremely informative and will give you plenty of ideas. Once you have a few ideas, send them a PM or post here if you need more info.

There are so many places documented on C-Brats that I look forward to someday seeing in Sea-Cruz. I am sure many will point you to these places.

The one place I have not seen much about in these pages, and is part of my home cruising waters, is Monterey, California. It is a beautiful historic harbor with showers and easy walking access to downtown Monterey, Steinbeck's Cannery Row, and Monterey Bay Aquarium. For boating fun one can follow the whale watching boats for a great whale show. If the weather is good, a cruise to Carmel Bay or even down to Point Lobos. If the weather is perfect travel a ways down the incredible Big Sur Coast. It is said by many to be the most beautiful joining of land and ocean in the world. But this is open ocean and requires a weather eye.

Now, let the real Sea Dory experts guide you to a world of endless cruising opportunity.

My favorite is the Pacific North West. You can Marina hop--or better yet anchor out. The San Juans are good for Marinas, but even all of the way up tine Inland Passage, and including the Broughtons, you can marina every night.

I am a little puzzled by the "nice marinas"--since some are not so "nice" but a lot of fun! It is the people you meet on the docks, whch make it such a joy. Same for anchorages. When anchored, we often had a good hard dinghy for rowing. I would row around anchorages--and "meet" the people. Still have friends for years ago who we keep in touch and visit each year.

Other areas on the West coast--Sacramento Delta, down to San Franscisco.

Lake Powell (have limited marinas there, but the anchoring is fantastic).

The gulf Coast from Mississippi to Apalachicola

The Tenessee River. All of the East Coast--from Maine down to Florida. Not really any "bad" places there. Some are just better than others.

I don't have any experience in the Great Lakes etc--but there are many places on the Inland waters--along the "Great Loop" areas.
