interested in going to Elfin Cove?

since the kid has been launched, this may..may..be my last "last summer" (actually it will be my third "last summer") I thought I'd throw this out there. If there is a group of Brats with a solid interest in a group fishing deal in July, I'd see about beating the boss down on the price. If you ever had a hankering to go on such an adventure or just wonder what's so special about the Cove,or just to see the largest collection of 30' C-Dory tomcats held in captivity, this might be the time.

Here's what I'm talking about http://www.eaglecharters.com/CrossSoundLodge/

How many of the 30 Tom Cats do they have up there? Is Black Feather or someone else making the 30 again? Great boats--I never rode on one, but was aboard several in the slips.

Wish I could get up there for a week. I suspect that the transport charges probably pretty well equal the charter charges coming from the lower 48?

Nice photos of the lodge, docks and fish!

hey there, there are about four C-D and one BF in the cove. I thought BF folded up so went searching the internet to find out...it appears they have, as the mold is for sale-

that's to bad, it seems like that trunk cabin model would be about an ideal boat for Alaskan adventures.

The air fare to Juneau could be spendy, as is the lodge part, but if you back out the food, lodging, boat gas and float plane bill it makes me wonder if there's anything left for payroll :(

HEY Bob-

Another business opportunity! Want to get back into the boat building business? Good excuse to come back to the PNW, or take the molds to Florida and do it there! Let me know what Marie says…………! (A blow-by blow account would be good)

HEY Ken-

Got any idea what we're talking about for a total package? $5000? If you're not sure, maybe one of the other Brats that has figured it up could chime in with a rough guess/itemization (?)

Good Luck on all counts!

Joe. :teeth :thup

it looks like there may be one less TC in the Cove-
http://anchorage.craigslist.org/boa/2737111422.html

that's a nice boat & has spent most of it's years in a barn, unused. I've had thoughts of buying it and adding the trunk cabin (don't even know if that's feasible) but trailering wouldn't be to handy and I have no fun funds

I looked at air fare from Vegas to Juneau, round trip was ~700, retail on the 4 day 5 night package is 3795, I don't know how much I can beat the boss down on the price.
If a person had the time and funds and wanted helluva a vacation hey could spend some time exploring the area, hop on the ferry and take the trip from Juneau to Pelican, rent a C-Dory from Panhandle and poke around, check out a glacier or two, maybe take a few pictures

I hope folks don't think this is just spam, I'm just thinking the Cove is a special place and this will probably be my last summer there & I always wanted to put together some kind of Brat deal. The next summer, I'm hoping Joe gets that Lake Shasta business going that we discussed years ago and run that boat :)

I will say that Elfin cove is a magical place--and would be a great place for a "vacation" as well as some great fishing! It is a place we try and to back to each time we have been in AK. I see an opportunity for some other C brats to enjoy this area!

Black Feather was out of business when we were last in Juneau, 2 1/2 years ago. I did see one of the pilot house boats--but didn't get inside. I agree that it would be a really great AK cruising boat. The tunnel is well clear aft. The trolling motor (mounted in the center) is an 8 hp high thrust as I recollect--which gives some fantastic economy--but even with the 150's the boats get a very good mileage.

I do think it would be pricey to buy a $110,000 boat and then pull the deck house off, and mold a new pilot house. It could be done, but better to buy the molds, build a couple of boats--pay for the one --and sell the molds again. (NO I am not taking on that argument with Admiral Marie~! --but it would be tempting)

The "biggest" problem with the 30 is the 10' 6" beam.

Oh boy, do I love those forward raked front windows. And Elfin Cove looks like a great place. Hey Ken, you gotta hang on there about 3 more years so I can get retired and have the time. Would love to do it but the time away is just not possible now.

We rented a 32' Nordic Tug in Juneau. You can still rent them but you have to get them early. From there to points beyond including elfin cove. I got spooled there. So imagine 80lb test line, big Penn reel slowly winding out, 18" a tug until ....now more line. But the halibut kept going and going. Ping. Line gets to the end and breaks. Go fish go.
Damn you any way fish. Now use 100lb test. Probably would be sick of halibut by now.

I will pass on this trip because destiny calls Alas to other adventures... circumnavigation Vancouver Island
