iPhone-How much memory?

I have been thinking about getting an iPhone 4 or 4s.

How much memory in the phone should I get? The iPhone 4 has 8GB and the 4s has 16, 32, and 64GB available.

As a comparison to my desktop computer, I only use 66GB of hard drive memory for everything including photos and music.

For anyone who has the iPhone navigation app, how much memory does the app and the charts take up?

Thanks for any help.

If you plan on an assortment of apps and some iTunes music and podcasts, I'd suggest the 32gb at least. Keep in mind the memory also has to run the phone stuff, so you don't really get all it says. If you go with too little memory, you will find yourself playing that "what can I dump?" game.

My wife has the 32gb iPhone 4 and loves it. I did put Navionics and other boat apps on there, as well as what she has loaded, some music (not a lot), no videos, a few photos... and she has plenty of available memory.

With these types of phones, the more you use them, the more uses you find for them.

Good luck with the decisions.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I have a 4 bought in Nov with 16G and paid $120 for it after a $80 credit on trade in POS old phone
.
I have 99 songs music files, 26 audiobooks, 6 books, 59 apps, no videos or movies which used 9G and 5 Gb free. I have remainder of songs, movies and audiobooks on iTunes and iCloud

I had a 32G iTouch which I gave to my oldest daughter and never came close to filling it but I have never felt the need to have everything loaded and iTunes makes it easy to manage.

The largest app is US East maps at 463 Mb followed by US West at 357 Mb and the rest of the apps are less than 100 MB each ex WeatherBug is 15 Mb

It is amazing device !

Enjoy!

The iPhone is our backup navigation and communication device while cruising. We have all the navionics charts for the coasts and lakes, GPS is accurate, and there are fine apps for cruisers. Get plenty of gigs for storing info. Hard to have too much capacity as you will find a multitude of fine uses for safe cruising and plenty of land apps as well.

I recommend the 32 Gig--it really has about 29 Gig available. My i phone 4s still has about 27 Gig free, and apps after the base apps which come on the phone. My i Pad has all Navionics high def charts of Caribbean, both East and West Coast, all of the Way to AK, along with Active Captain charts, a number of other navigation and weather programs etc--about 40 in all--still only has used about 14 Gig of memory.
