Anyone experienced a 50 HP four stroke on a 22 Cruiser?

See ebay 120756990583.

Isn’t this hugely under powered, Comments?

Yes it's underpowered. It's OK for cruising and putzing around but 50HP on a 22 isn't enough to even get on plane with a heavy load.

Methinks that boat has been here before.

Ron, use the google custom search box upper rh corner and search on

50HP AND 22 Type it in exactly like that

we have twin 40hp and sometimes shut one engine down to cruise slowly. With one 40hp we can get our very heavily loaded boat to about 7-8kts at 3500 rpm, we could probably get 10kts at 5200 but wouldn't want to. So, if you just want to go trawler speeds one 5ohp would do you quite well but...but...but. A new 50hp (Honda) would cost in the 7K range so you could put it on and have good power for about 8K (including installation/rigging)

We bought the duck with 50honda topspeed 16mph with 3 adults planes off at 10 mph we sold the motor and bought a 90 Suzuki much better I think the yamaha would do uQfine on a angler

I will comment that I have never seen a CD 22 at Alaska Mining and Diving rigged with a single 40 or 50 as they were all twins. They used to have a have dozen or so sitting around the lot as they sold well. I have also heard that they don't deal with c-dory anymore and that is another story. But, for whatever it is worth, my BF 45 produces about 14-18 mph (there was some gentle swell) with a very light load. I was actually quite shocked it went that fast.

That's strange. I had a '95 with twin BF45's on it and it wouldn't plane with one engine. Did you have both engines in the water? At 14-18, it must have been planing..

No, it would not do it with one engine in the water. And it was very, very slow to get going that fast. It will get it on step, but it's a slug and takes forever. This was very lightly loaded with no water, no food, no fish, and a 60 pound kid....I probably have about 20 gallons of gas onboard.....BTW, one of the motors does it better than the other......Beats me as to why. But, it is something I only briefly experiment with as those engines are really working hard doing that.

I think a 70 hp yamaha motor would be sufficient with an angler less weight no water smaller cabin that would be the smallest eng for my taste the 50 hp was way to slow and ran through more fuel then the 90 that replaced it
twin 40's work .

In fact I like that 70 hp yami I wouldn't mind twin s on my cc23

I think the old factory info used to say that a Fifty was sufficient for lakes on a 22. Not for water skiing and most lake boats do not get heavily loaded. I would not want a 22' with 50 hp for my use but then again I'm not usually a lake boater. Older carburetor equipped engines are not as efficient as the newer fuel injected engines. I could only guess a new fuel injected fifty would get better mileage than a 90 if they were just putting around the lake.
D.D.

If you want to just put around the lake in a c-dory you would get the same hull speed out of a 9 hp kicker as you would out of a 50hp that won't plane for a lot less cost and fuel. If it won't plane the boat its just a big kicker. Now if all I was going to do was fish a lake and put around at hull speed I would get a small pontoon boat with a 9 or 10 hp motor and not waste a good cdory.
