Hi everyone, I’m currently in process of purchasing a ‘05 25 in Alaska. This will be my first C Dory AND first boat.

My plan is to mostly cruise Prince William Sound out of Whittier, though I’m sure I’ll trailer down to Seward & Homer here n there.

Just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the great knowledge and wisdom you’ve already shared.

If anyone has advice on cruising PWS in general, beginning C-Dory ownership, etc. I’m all ears.

I look forward to seeing some of you on the salt.

Welcome to the C-Brats and good luck with the new boat. I’ve been cruising PWS on and off for 20 years and it’s still my favorite place to go in Alaska, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
My first recommendation is to get the cruising guide to PWS by Jim and Nancy Lethcoe, lots of valuable information all around but especially useful for finding a good anchorage.

PWS is a magical place. I will second the recommendation to purchase the cruising guide to PWS, as it is very helpful.

Cheers!

Welcome, they are great boats for the sound, just watch that weather, play it safe and leave plenty of time in your trip planning for anchoring up in a safe harbor to wait out a storm. I'd recommend a couple anchors onboard and enough line to get you tied off to shore in a pinch. Get as decent a chartplotter/sonar as possible, bottom profiles in some of these anchorages change quick and with the 14' tide its tough to predict what erratic boulders or rocky shelfs may be under you until low tide. The cruising guide is gold, contains a lifetime of info, and will help get you into some great anchorages. Pay attention to the sections on wind and land features, better yet buy the book on PWS weather climate by the sane author Jim Lethcoe. Title wave books usually has some new copies of all well as the older editions. Happy boating, see you out there!
