I finally bit the bullet and decided on the motor for my dinghy on the new boat. I just bought a Torqueedo 1003 electric motor today!
I've known about them for a few years but never considered one until recently. I know a few Brats have them (Dr Bob and Greg Aurelia and others). I think it'll work nicely for my needs. I just need a small, motor for my dinghy. I'll also have oars as well. I thought about buying the Lehr 5hp propane but decided against it. Also briefly pondered buying a 2hp Honda....
My two biggest factors were weight and ease of maintenance. The weight is 30lbs total BUT the tiller and battery can be taken off very easily if need be and that greatly reduces weight when transporting.
The maintenance is the best part....NO MAINTENANCE. No oil changes, filters and fuel to worry about.
