keep your boat locked

Well colten is at it again. stolen boat

or bitterend

Looks like I will have to start locking my boat even in the san juans while out day hiking or going to the store. Just closing the door is no longer enough. Better yet a small camera recorded to a thumb drive. At least I could recover it and have proof of who is taking the boats.

If hes is stealing boats just to get around , not a valid reason, at least he could use a dock and run it up on the beach. Low life punk ki.. no 18 now. low life man.

It happens frequently in S. Florida--often the boat is found stripped a week later and the engines gone. Unfortunately locking doesn't stop them. In fact there are very few boats you cannot get into in a minute or less. I have to do it to prevent damage--Storms, dragging, fire etc--and it is very easy. The C Dory 22, is perticularly easy to break into, unless you have taken precautions.

While that punk is out joy riding around, we have had a HUGE issue with Kicker motor theft. We've talked to between three dozen and 40 people about stolen kickers. Most popular is the High Thrust 8 by Yamaha.

Bolting the kicker on is not enough. We even know of one person who has the perps on video survelience tape, and no one recognizes them, so no help there. They spent 20 minutes in his back yard while they unbolted and dixconnected the motor and carried it away.

The only thing a door lock does on a C-Dory or any other boat is to keep the honest people out. Not much different than a house, except a house with an alarm. (or a boat for that matter)

There has been a rash of kicker thefts in various Anacortes marinas lately, as reported in the local paper's police blotter (always fun to read!) We also have a lot of car prowls, particularly cars parked at trailheads.

He has broken into 3 houses in our neighborhood which of course is his home turf near Elger Bay on Camano, so we are obviously pretty ticked off about this, sure am glad he had a nice 30 footer to take his latest trip in. We really pay close attention to detail when we are gone since this is only our vacation house.

terrible

Unfortunately he has lots of relatives.
In our area in SW FL, the deadbeats travel the canals and cut the lines then tow it away. Small OBs, SS props and electronics are grab and go items.

It is suspected that Colton Harris-Moore is now back on Camano Island. After the above mentioned vessel was abandoned on Lopez Island, a 30 foot cabin cruiser was stolen from Lopez Island and recovered adrift off the South end of Camano Island.
It is suspected that Colton crashed a stolen airplane near Granite Falls several months ago, fired a shot at a Sheriff Deputy and then stole a vehicle that belongs to a friend of mine (stolen from his farm near Granite Falls), which was subsequently recovered in Stanwood (near Colton's home on Camano Island).
Since April 2008, Colton has been implicated as having stolen at least 4 small airplanes, several boats and several cars. Additionally, he is suspected of numerous burglaries of residents and businesses.
His criminal exploits have been reported in 4 Washington State counties, Idaho, and British Columbia, Canada. The FBI as well as numerous local law enforcement agencies have joined in pursuit of him.
His criminal history dates back to when he was 12 years old.

Sounds like a good subject for Youtube! Lots of folks see that and it might turn up a name, assuming the cops care.

last week i stopped at bethel marine, a local boat dealership, that had several boats of interest, listed for sale. two of the boats had shrink wrap on. when we walked aboard the boats i notice the hatch, (door), for the cabin was wide open. i thought that was odd and mentioned so to the sales person. he said, there's not a locked door on the lot, other than the building door and that was covered by a security system. the salesman further stated that brake-ins occur with such frequency that it's cheaper to leave the door open rather than have to replace the door because the sob (stupid obtuse beings) would use a crowbar to force it open.
strange but true.

Youtube? He already has a Facebook page set up by someone, and there was a segment on "Dateline" last week about him. Maybe he missed the show so he stole the boats to get back onto Camano so he could watch the reruns. Frankly we are sick of this kid now a 6'5" man.

Not a half-hour after I wrote this, I went out to get the mail and discovered that some a-hole had thrown a rock through the passenger glass of my truck and taken my oh-so-valuable $100 Garmin GPS.

Damn scum. Sorry this happened to you, Warren. I hope whoever did that gets a cut from the broken glass, gets an infection that goes all the way to his gonads, and they turn green and fall off. :amgry I generally try to see the good in people, but our society seems to get less civilized all the time. Kinda makes one want to untie the dock lines and just get away from people. Replacing the GPS is way less of a hassle compared to dealing with getting the broken glass replaced. I hope they find the little shit and make him do a year of community service, AFTER taking everything of value in his pitiful little life.

This guy, or guys is sounding more and more like a myth. If he's real he should have been caught by now. If he is real, he will be. Hope so, and soon. :thup

Ugh. Thieves.

Car prowls, burglaries, shoplifts...the list goes on as could I. Until society takes this stuff seriously and holds people responsible, w/ real consequences, it'll never stop or even slow.

Warren sorry you've been violated. Car prowls w/ stolen GPS units are, unfortunately, common now. I've even seen them break into cars based solely on the suction cup impression left on windshields and have had them rewarded by the owners leaving the GPS units in the glove box or console.

Chop their hand off, once convicted, I say. At least it would make it harder for them the next time around.

In Anchor Point, Alaska this past winter there were a rash of burglaries, break-ins and general mischief. The State Troopers knew who they were but could not catch them in the act. Well ........a local pose organized and they caught the low lifes in the act, beat living hell out of them and delivered them to the Troopers. Good job. Don't fool with a PO'ed citizen.

Ya, kinda brings back some memories of a few years past (1994). I was in Singapore, some American "kid" had been caught vandalizing cars and were going to get caned for the offense. Everyone in the US it seemed were up in arms over it - even the President was pleading on TV. Bet that "kid" didn't do that again, at least in S'pore.

Then again I was in China and saw what happened when a "kid" was caught stealing a bicycle - I think he decided to walk the rest of his life!

I spoke with Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes yesterday and asked about theft. They said someone lost a kicker to theft about two weeks ago and that it is a rare occassion. There is theft on the bluff above from cars being left with GPS, stereos, ipods, etc being left on the seat while out hiking. I will still lock the kicker to my dinghy or the sternrail. I keep the C-Dory in the driveway but am adding a padlock to it's kicker as well.
