I purchased a 22 cruiser a few months ago. The main engine is a Suzuki 90. The kicker is a Honda 15 on a Garelick up/down motor mount. Unfortunately, the kicker drags in the water even if the mount is raised and the engine tilted up. After talking with Garelick today, I realized the Honda probably has a long shaft. I also realized that the mount should be vertical and it's not. The rep from Garelick suggested installing a shim between the transom and the mount. Then he went on to say that they don't recommend having the motor on the mount when the boat is going down the road on the trailer.
So now what do I do? I've installed motor mounts on sailboats but never on a boat like this.
What's the best practice? Get a smaller kicker?! I have photos of this situation but I don't think I can post them here.
