I have a 6HP yamaha kicker on an adjustable bracket that I like to use a fair amount when I'm not in an hurry. I decided to add the alternator kit (6 amps) to it as a safety in case I drain the batteries too much while anchor, and also that I can use the auto pilot with kicker without draining the batteries too much. I mostly row my dinghy to shore but I sometime like to go explore with it, in that case I like to use the kicker. So my question is, would I shorten the life of the regulator if I run the engine without having it plug to a battery?
