I had a pretty rough experience Sunday. Friday I trailer my CD about 75 miles to the Saint Mary's River about 60 miles inland. My Union was having a cookout saturday. My plan was to attend the cookout saturday and spend sunday and monday cruising the Saint Mary's just me and the dog. I stayed on the boat friday and saturday and sunday morning awoke not feeling to good. Had pains in my back. I've been plagued with colitus recently and thought that was what was going on. I started to cast off figuring if I got moving I'd feel better. Fortunately before leaving the dog and I walked up to the picnic area where some of my buddies were cleaning up and thats when it hit me. If you've never had a kidney stone the pain is undescribeable. This was my 10th. My buddies got my boat out of the water and brought it and the dog home and another buddy got me to the hospital. I passed the stone about two hours after arrivng at the emergency room. I'm really glad and lucky I didn't head out in the boat because this is a very secluded river with no cell phone and probably no VHF reception. I guess I better teach the dog how to drive the CD just in case!

Marvin-

Glad you're feeling better!

I've had two bladder stones in the last four years, one just a few weeks ago.

I know kidney stones can be even worse!

Not the kind of thing you want to have when you're in somewhere remote on a cruise!

Fortunately, if you've had one before, you know the probability is you'll pass it within a few days or so. Carry lots of pain medication and travel with someone trained to run the boat in your incapication.

The idea of running around in choppy seas with a painful stone in your "personal plumbing" isn't pretty!

Glad you're OK now!

Joe.

Marvin-those can be soo painful. Thank goodness it all worked out. Hopefully now that it has passed you will be fine.

Glad to hear that you're ok! I've only had them twice, but I know the pain that you experienced!

Marvin -

You're a lucky guy to have had friends close by -- whew! Recently posted up on the website the tale of the Black Swan -- and that's one of the biggest concerns with boating -- distance from medical help, or incapacitation alone -- when you meet a Black Swan. Sure glad you had the help and the emergency room close by.
