LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES 6/15/2009

Hello

Brenda and I plan to trailer our boat "Falcon" to Paris Landing State Park on Kentucky Lake in Tennessee leaving Stamps, AR. on Monday 6/15/09
, stay overnight at the Inn and launch at the Marina the next morning.

Our son Dr Bill will post our location and destinations each evening with some remarks about our activities.

We have friends in that area, Byrdman, Jeff, Mike and others that we will contact by phone to set up a rendezvous.

Cathy & I are excited to hear from you two! We now live on the Cumberland river and hope we can catch up. You are for sure welcome to stay here a few days and do some land things too. You did have my cell number when we were in Seattle. If not send me a pm.

I remember a very vicious storm at the beginning of the first c-brat gathering in Apalachicola. The "Falcon" arrived at port drenched with Bill and Brenda soaking wet telling how rough the seas were in the gulf on the way.

I remember Bill and his brother Ed's trip down the Mississippi river around the coast line to the keys. The first three days of the trip they spent hanging on to a tree because of high winds, flooding and impassable conditions in the gulf.

Now at the beginning of this trip over from Arkansas to middle Tennessee Weather bug reports the whole area is under severe storm watch with winds up to 70 mph, up to 2 1/5" size hail reported, lightning and tornado watches. Your not even in the water yet.
You two just have all the fun !!!!
We'll catch up to you two after the storm. Give us a call.

We love you two!!!! Be safe

The drive from Stamps was wet, but uneventful. Bill and Brenda just too their time, slowed down and made good progress.

Currently, the Falcon is under a tornado watch. The boat is still on the trailer at the Paris Landing Marina in Tennessee. Raining like cats and dogs. Lots of lightning, and plenty of thunder to go around.

They are staying in the hotel for the night, and will launch the Falcon in the morning.

(Mom made me take part of this update out. No humor on her part.)

Catfish buffet was the main course, with cream potatoes, fried corn, carrots, apples, and peach cobbler for dessert. Water, and coffee to drink.

Bill and Brenda,
Good luck on your cruise. I was at Paris Landing for a few days recently. I met my two brothers and my sister there for a little reunion for three nights at the condos in the State Park. Beautiful country around the lakes and I am sure you will have a great time.

Got to chat a bit with Miss Brenda during their dinner last night....sorry about that timeing....but, Bill asked me to call then as to allow him to slip back for seconds...or thirds.

Enjoy your non-schedule...schedule and you know you have my number and call 24/7.

Will watch for travel updates and proxcimity of Lake Barkely State Park and Marina, Clarksville City Wall, Nashville City Dock,...and then in the Cumberland River zone of my Mother's home...Mamma Byrd who has hosted us often on C-Brat gatherings, my brother Mike & B' home (GYPSY)... and now fresh from Bama....the Brigners and their wonderful new home on the Cumberland for C-Pearl.

Keep in mind I fly west/NW Monday moring. Our home is open prior to my departure...in Clarksville, and/or Mt. Juliet.

Safe travels...and may your storm burst and high winds be few...

Bill and Brenda had breakfast at the hotel of bacon, eggs, fruit, biscuits, and coffee.

Launched the boat at 09:07AM. Motored north toward Kentucky.

Wanted to have lunch at Bear Creek Marina, but restaurant is closed. Just snacked during lunch.

Storm came through at 12:45PM. Bill and Brenda anchored in a small cove and watched it rain and rain and rain until about 01:30PM. Bill put a swim suite and hoisted the anchor in the water, while getting soaked by the rain. Bill in a swim suite is not an image for the weak. The part of the soaking was the shower. Most of the storm seemed to move south of them.

Anchored at 04:15PM and had sandwiches for dinner.

Jo and I will be watching this thread closely. We plan to launch in Georgetown, SC July 11th for a week on the ICW... the Cumberland is our back-up plan in case of coastal weather problems.

Bill & Brenda- Enjoy the Cumberland. We cruised it as a side trip last year while on the Loop. There was a really nice anchorage we stayed at but of course I can't think of the name right now . We might have mentioned it to you when we talked about it in the past.Maybe we'll see you at apalach in the fall. We're heading to lake superior at the end of this month and will try to cruise Wheeler lake on the way up. Good cruising.Alan on Simplicity.

Talked with Miss Brenda about 6 times....around the 5pm to 545pm time frame... bad signal...but..... anchored in a nice cove, on the Cumberland, have not yet locked thru a lock yet and indicated their plans were to be in the Clarksville City Dock area around noon to 1pm on Thursday... Well....was working on some tax stuff....but hey..that can wait...taxes will always be with us...and my C-Brat friends are passing thru town. Storming to beat the band again to night... much, much fierce lightening, rain like a cow on a hot rock....but the spash does not stink, small hail...but not much of it on me here..... and some pretty strong winds...and gust.

I am sure Bill is fine... I am sure Miss Brenda is wondering just how she ended up with that particular man, loving his dream of travle on the rivers, in that boat named Falcon...on such a hot, rainy, energy charged night.... and for those of you who have not heard the story of just how they met... well... that is another wonderful story....and all should hear it. Sort of a mix of the Jonny Cash song Sunday Morning Sidewalk.... and some real sweet love song....with jingles and angles flying around and stuff.

So... as I climb into my warm, dry bed, ac unit taking out the 90% humidity of the outdoors....lightening still poping a bit..... I'll just keep the Russels in my thoughts and prayers till I hear from them in the morning.

Bill and Brenda woke up and had breakfast around 06:00AM. Breakfast was toast, eggs, and coffee cooked on the cabin diesel stove. Pulled up the anchor a little after 07:00AM.

Coarse was laid toward Nashville TN. Stopping in Clarksville for the night.

Stopped at Lake Barkley State Park Marina for gas and lunch. Lunch was hamburgers and cheeseburgers at the park snack bar.

Along the way after lunch spotted a mountain lion getting a drink of water from the river. The mountain lion stood there and watched us for a few seconds before bolting into the wilderness. The mountain lion was the size of a small German Sheppard.

Anchored out last night in a small cove. During the night a rain storm shook the boat with lots of rumbling thunder and lightning.

Was Thursday and Friday a great day or what???
:thup :thup
Around noon the Russels pull FALCON safely to the Clarksville City Wall.
C-Pearl with the Brigner's and Momma Byrd were enroute to Clarksville via highway.... and we were joined by my wife Sherryl for a great lunch at The Luv'n Spoonful in Clarksville, about 1/2 mile from the city dock wall.

Then, on out to my house for more fun, laughter.

C-Pearl Crew w/Mamma Byrd on board head back to Mt. Juliet area (MM 228-236 area).... and FALCON & ALOYSIUS crew enjoyed a nice dinner, a good nights rest and showers....

Then, Friday morning... FALCON proceeds up river to Nashville, stop into Rock Harbor, and as Miss Brenda was calling me...they had arrived and were headed to the Fleetwood Mac concert. :note :note :note
Myself and Sherryl made the concert, but got there just in time as she had to work a full day....and it was a great concert for sure. :note :thup :smiled

Life is good on the Cumberland and it was truly great to see and share time, laughs, food and good times with other C-Brats.....again.

Wishing them safe and better less stormy weather for their return trip to Paris Landing... and Thanks for stoping bye.

Last report was from Brenda...prior to the concert...and I was not clear if they were going up river towards the Brigners...C-PEARL...or...if they were looping back to head down river back to Paris Landing....??

Dr. Bill.... any report? Brigners/Mike & B or other Cumberland River C-Brats have any sightings/reports??

No contact from the Falcon crew. C-Pearl and Gypsy stayed on the hook up the river. Hope to hear the rest of the story from Bill and Brenda.
