LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES 6/15/2009

Saturday was another lazy day in Nashville.

The Nashville Symphony featured The Conductor Leonard Slatkin, and the solo Violinist Karen Gomyo.

The Nashville Symphony website provided more information on what was performed during Bill and Brenda’s night on the town. Conductor Slatkin to lead performances of Brahms’ gently evocative Symphony No. 2. The soloist, Karen Gomyo took on a one of Bruch’s expressive Violin Concerto.

Sounds like a wonderful evening.

Got up at 7AM and had breakfast at the Hilton. Went to McKenzie Methodist Church at 9AM.

Boarded the boat around 11AM, and left Nashville toward Clarksville.

Pulled at the Wall in Clarksville for the night on the boat. Have not found a place to eat.

Left out of Clarksville around 5:30AM. Bill started motoring slowly down the river while Brenda made coffee and donuts. After breakfast, Bill put the throttle forward and we making great time.

The motor started sputtering and Brenda found the gas tank to be empty. The harsh reality was the second only had about five gallons. The team ran into some fishermen. The fishermen told about Cumberland City. So very good to have two five gallon cans full of gas in the boat.

The next stop was Bumpus Mills Marina and filled boat main tanks gas. 38.8 gallons. The boat main tanks only hold 40 total gallons. Too much excitement on this trip.

Staying the hot night in Barkley State Park Lodge. The room is on the rustic side with open access for the black bears to join in sleeping tonight.

The Lake Barkley State Park Lodge is definately a five star lodge. The food is great, the room overlooking the lake is modern, and coffee on the veranda watching the birds and a deer seemed almost like home.

Brenda and I cast off from the marina at 8:17 AM, after checking our fuel, destined to reach Paris Landing State Park that day. Running at 4,000 RPM (20 to 22 MPR) with calm winds and little boater traffic we made PLSP Marina by 12:01 PM. Our normal cruising speed is 12 to 14 MPR.

After loading "Falcon" we pointed our noses west toward home, Stamps, AR. stopping only for fuel and a dollar burger.

Arrived home at 10:10 PM

A Summery

Our Land Between The Lakes cruise lasted nine days.

Anchored out three night in hot weather. Fortunately two night were interrupted with strong winds, lightning, and cooling rain to break the the long hot nights.

Byrdman, Manna Byrd, Jeff and Kathy welcomed us to Clarksville. Byrdman's and Cheryl home is exquisite in a gated community.
Everyone who knows Byrdman can say his omelets are top of the cast. To say THANK YOU is not enough but I can't reach you from here.

Nashville must be the music capital of the world. Staying at the downtown Hilton gave us access to concerts, shopping, the river front, homeless people, and Hooter's. We went to the hard rock concert (Fleetwood Mac) which was so loud that it vibrated my lungs. The next evening we went to the Schermerhorn Symphony and the only seats available were centered behind the orchestra within five feet of the base drums. Just a great experience being that close and all.

Out of Fuel!! Not quiet but close, some how the port tank was empty and when we switched from a low starboard tank the motor began to sputter. We cruised on at idle with less than three gallons to Cumberland City and transported ten gallons to the boat.

"Falcon", dealing with issues like weather, fuel marinas, where to anchor, and the uncertainties make boating exciting for me but of course Brenda prefers planned, scheduled and cool.

Where will the next adventure be. There are many places to see in this different way.
