LandingLoop

I saw an ad in Soundings for a product called "LandingLoop." On their web site it looks like the ideal solution to a number of docking problems. Has anybody had any experience with these?

I'm particularly concerned with durability and weight?

We have a CD 25 and the Admiral will be wielding the beast.

There was a post on this site sometime back about one. It had been used for awhile and they were trying to get rid of it. I'll try to find it. It's basically like a long stick with a loop on it, similar to the sticks they use to corral dogs with to get them into cages, I think.

On edit: couldn't find it, sorry....

Yea, I thought of a dog catcher when I saw the video. I searched C-Brats to no avail.

Just wondering if anyone has actually used/seen one.

You may want to check the "Docking Fork" at jatcomarine.com. It attaches to your boat hook and is a bit cheaper than the landing loop. Seen, yes; used, no.

I'll check it out, never heard of this one, but it would seem the durability and weight would be based on your boat hook. Good idea, thanks.

Hi Brats,
About that jatcomarine Docking Fork: An old and slightly broken one came with my ComPac 19 sloop when I bought her. I've no idea how old it is, but the boat is 26 years, so it probably is newer than that. The ends of the fork have plastic clippy things (sun-scorched) that kind of cradle a docking line, Behind the tips, the top of each fork arm has a short (2-3 in.?) strip of what looks like the hook side of Velcro. One plastic clippy thing was broken and the Velcro surfaces heavily loaded up with trash. With a new clip (source?) and replacement Velcro, it should work much better than it does now. That broken clip not withstanding, durability should not be an issue: its hardest job is to hold a loop of dockline in the air, then have it ripped off of the Velcro. The dock line and your boathook handle do all of the grunt work.

Don't remember when but Roger (Dreamer) was the one who sold the docking hook I believe. He used it while Janet was recooperating from a shoulder/chest injury and sold it here on the site I believe. I saw one used at John Wayne a long while back by a single hander, looked smooth, but just not for me.

PM Roger for the whereabouts of his post.

What Roger had, which I bought from him, was something entirely different than the device that attaches to the boathook. It is a heavy grapnel-like device, attached to a line, and is used for situations like when you need to throw a line out to grab onto a bull rail.
