Well today when the sun sets here on the slope we will not see it again until February the something or other.(long time) Took a drive earlier toward the arctic ocean and upon returning noticed just the thinnest band of sun light visible on the horizon and that was at 12:30 this afternoon. We will however have a sort of dim overcast type of light from 11:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon. Sort of eerie looking, and cool at the same time. For the next 3 months people up here are not responsible for their actions! :P Mike on Huda Thunkit

Mike - being the Red Neck you are, I am sure you have heard the song by Johnny Cash "Don't Take Your Gun to Town". Substitute "the Bathroom" for Town.

Does law enforcement cut you some slack during this season?

I don't know how you do it, Mike; I would go stark raving mad... I'm talking "The Shining" kind of crazy. This island boy needs a regular dose of el sol. One of those "light therapy" devices? Company trips to some sunshine?

Then again, in six months, I wouldn't be able to sleep because of all the light. :crook

You Alaskan folks are tough! (like stuff 'em in a gun kinda tough)

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I was gonna go see Borat today but I can't tear myself away from you guys. Hey Mike, I wish you a "good night'..

Hey Mike
What are you doing up on the slope. I thought you lived in Wasilla.

I do live in Wasilla but work on the slope and therefore I must spend my 2 weeks there every month. Having the absolute best job in the Nation makes you want to be compliant. The other side of that is I am OFF 2 weeks of every month and that is hard to beat. :thup Mike

What do you people do in the winter?? I mean you can only read so may books, I have 4 going right now. Too cold to fish, to cold to hunt, and water sking is OUT. i would not want to cross cunrty ski in that country in winter, might end up wolf lunch. You can only build so many thing in the shop. what do you do... besides that..?

I don't know for sure, but I heard that Alaska had one of the fastest growing populations in the Union. :P

I've heard that there's a fair amount of alcohol consumed in the most northern, coldest, and darkest state during winter!

Well, it helps pass the time and helps keep you warm!

Joe.

Is it true that in Alaska you can set your alarm to go off in three months? :moon

MartyP
we're all in the same boat....

We are ( a fast growing ) state regrettably. This is due to a couple factors other than natural propagation. We pay some of the highest welfare rates in the nation and coupled with our Permanent fund dividend you have enough enticement to draw in any dirt bag with a coat. :amgry

Our oil economy which accounts for over 90% of our states operating money is also doing well and to a lesser degree growth is increased as new jobs are added.

We also have some of the highest domestic violence and drug/ alcohol problems as well. Some of which is attributed to the problems some folks experience from lack of light.

My solution is to build large well lit prisons and once we have these folks "fixed" we can send them back to where ever they came from.

Well, sooner or later the truth has to come out!

No point pussy-footin' around the truth!

The older one gets, the less time there is to be politically polite and mollify reality to avoid offending anyone.

They were'n going to agree with you anyway, so make your case loud and clear with both barrels!

Joe.

Hey Joe- I was born in 1936.

Marty-

I suspect time, aging, and ill health contribute toward my crankiness, and it does feel good to vent a bit, occasionally. Don't think I'm alone, either!

And I'm smart enough to know I'm presenting my side of the issue when doing so, but just to tired to play the great reflective mediatior anymore! Still appreciate those who can.

Love your sense of humor and posts!

Joe.

You know Joe, the title of this thread might just be appropriate. Please know that there is no need for you to explain anything to me. I have already learned more from your many posts than I could ever repay. Also. I was really commenting on Alasguns long post oon the "That's life" thread where he talks about getting his testicles caught in a flintlck. NO kidding! Joe, if we meet at the SBS I will take you to the Old Country Buffet, Sr. Division, my treat!

Marty-

No need to repay me for anything!

On the contrary, I owe EVERYONE on the C-Brat site a ton for putting up with my constant drivel!

Once I catch up with Pat, I'll somewhat retire into the background, hopefully.

Now that you mention it, I'm sure glad Mike's .58 caliber black powder rifle wasn't a 3-4 inch Ceremonial Cannon, or he'd be singing a different tune, and at a different pitch!

See ya' in Seattle!

Joe.

Sorry, Mike -- Alaska is not the fastest growing state. the latest annual change data I could find (2004-2005) show Alaska to be #20 in % of growth -- 0.9%

Nevada is #1 in growth during that period, with 3.5% growth. I'm not saying that, as a Nevada resident, with any pride -- I'd just as soon those folks head to Alaska.

Here's the quote from the Census Bureau:

The Desert is Desirable
Nevada Edges Out Arizona as the Fastest-Growing State

Nevada’s population increased by 3.5 percent between July 1, 2004, and July 1, 2005, marking the 19th consecutive year that Nevada has been the fastest-growing state, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Arizona was a close second with a growth rate just under 3.5 percent.

The nation’s population rose by 0.9 percent (2.8 million people) over the period, to 296.4 million.

The South and West again monopolized the list of the fastest-growing states; Idaho, Florida, Utah, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Delaware and Oregon rounded out the top 10.

I think in Nevada it has something to do with the fact that the State of Nevada, by constitution, is prohibited from sharing your financial information with the IRS. I like the way those folks think.
