Well this is embarrassing. I hate it when I'm a dumb-ass. I was going to post this in "That's Life" in the thread it references, but I fear seeing the "Proud American" thread surface might spoil members' morning coffee, and besides, that forum is too private for my well-deserved public humiliation.
I did not know the "Proud American" thread still existed until yesterday. My first knowledge of the "That's Life" forum came last week when I pulled up my posts -- also new to me -- and saw the "Why we post" thread at the top of the list after I had assumed it had been zapped. I assumed it and the Proud American" thread and others like them were vaporized when they got too hot. Then in stumbling around while logged on -- which frequently I am not -- I discovered "That's Life" and its purpose. Yesterday, it occurred to me that the "Proud American" thread was probably in the same limbo. My first experience with a disappearing thread was when I returned home the evening of July 4th, and it seemed logical it had been removed. My tizzy-fit last message was the last I had seen. I won't go into the sorry details of the circumstances that interfered with my spending time acquainting myself with this site, but I will make an unintentionally too-long-delayed apology for escalating beyond reasonable proportion and for the appearance of being unresponsive to civil gestures.
Oldgrowth, I hope you are still reading. I truly apologize for leaping to conclusions and assuming your remark about "those who would destroy" the country was directed toward the left. Yesterday, reading your response to me, I recognized I was wrong and at fault. We agree on the danger of extremists, whether left or right. We also share an appreciation for friends with conflicting ideologies. Your response to my last post of the thread was more civil than I deserved. You are a gentleman. I wrote a somewhat long post for the "Why we post" thread, near its beginning, that vanished when I hit preview -- I think because I was, inadvertently not logged on. In it, in mentioning the diverse members I would enjoy meeting, I said it is clear you are not only talented, but also a man who would do anything for a friend. I hope we do have the opportunity to meet someday.
Tyboo, I have intended for months to thank you for not disappearing me per my mid-snit request. I really enjoy this site and learn a lot on it. I would not have procrastinated with the thank-you had I seen your post.
Thanks to all for bearing with me.
Joe, my lost "Why we post" post might have challenged for the longest post record that I assume you hold. Maybe I'll try to recreate it.
Regards to all,
Greg
