LCD Screen Cleaner or C-dory window Cleaner.

that's perfect, I've heard that screens on electronics are easily damaged by some cleaners. We where talking just the other day about finding some kind of proper screen cleaner for the computer....thanks for the tip
 
Either use Camera Lens Cleaner for coated Optics or Eye Glass Cleaner for coated optics. They both work, but If you don't touch the screen with your fingers they hardly ever get dirty.
 
thanks, we'll hunt some of that down, I think that cleaning tool link you posted looks like a winner though

Our screen cleaning "appliance" is of a different species. :cat Unfortunately, a much coarser tongue. I tried smearing tuna on the screen, which she went after with great delight. Any idea how I now get the scratches off the screen??? :crook

Hey Jim, just get some 3000 grit wet/dry stuff and go after her tongue instead! :cat :smilep On second thought, I don't think my cats would like it and Molly probably wouldn't either!

I use Sparkle glass cleaner and cloth diaper to clean LCD monitors, eye glasses, camera lens, microscopes.......
http://www.glasscleaner.com/ It contains alcohol but no ammonia.

I have not tried on boat electronics, etc but should work ok.

One liter spray bottle is $2.50 at Menards. Less when on sale or with the rebate

Sparkle is a very good glass cleaner. Most LCD Screen manufactures say not to use glass cleaner as it is to harsh. Most screens have a anti reflective coating on them that is removed by glass cleaners. Garmin in there manuals says don't do it and will void the warranty. With the high cost of the LCD screens I'll stick with the eyeglass or camera lens cleaners. Or just use the dog :lol:
 
Ok thanks. I wonder what is different about using it on marine LCD screens that Garmin is so concerned b/c I have used Sparkle on computer LCD and CRT monitors for years without problems. By chance, did you contact Garmin and specifically ask about using Sparkle. We also use it on our microscopes some costing for than $40k which is less than a new 22 Cruiser but have research grade objectives, the most expensive ones made and they change frequently. Some folks make a mixture of Sparkle and alcohol and sell it like hot cakes as microscope optical cleaners.

I don't know if your microscopes have coated lenses. My Laser I can use Acetone on the lenses with no affect. So I guess it would be what the manufacture recommends.
 
ok thanks again AR coating are similar to ones used on microscope and camera lens. Do they recommend any specific cleaner? maybe fog it with your breath and wipe clean? I assume it holds up to fingerprints well over time then Sparkle is ok.
