line chocks

My 25' didn't come with chocks in the bow area. I am planning on installing them and would like to hear form anyone who has installed them and could give me any insight as to what size to install and any issues I may encounter while installing them.
Currently I am thinking the 4 1/2" stainless Whitecap brand may be what i'll use.

You might consider what many of us have done on the bow of the 25. We have put secondary cleats, in the area where you might normally put chocks. None of the boats came with chocks from the factory to the best of my knowledge.

The secondary cleats are great for dock lines, and spring lines/shock absorber when anchoring.



These cleats can be placed anywhere. There is a 1/8 round SS rub strip to avoid abrasion on the fiberglass.

I have done the same as in Thataway's photo, I probably got the idea from him.

When I anchor I always place a snubber line tied with a prussic knot onto the anchor rode and then slacken off the rode so that it doesn't chafe the rode on the bow rollers. They are also useful for tying off at a dock. Mine are about 8 inches total and I used large SS washers under the berth and sealed the holes well with epoxy.

Thank you Bob and Peter, I hadn't considered adding cleats in this location as I felt it was somewhat redundant as there is a cleat already in place. However after seeing what the configuration looks like on Thataway I may have to reevaluate my options.

At one time I found a device I thought was called a choc-cleate. NO idea how it is really supposed to be spelled, or even if that is right. I had decided I was going to mount those, (a combination of cleat horns and a chock in between, so it would do both jobs.) I have been trying to find that since I say this thread but have note had any luck (It might be called a cleat-chock or something else). It made the most sense of the use of that space to me.

If anyone knows what I am talking about, I could use the clarification. A pix and link would be super.

Thanks Bill for finding this and Harvey for describing it. It's called a 'double mooring cleat'. Looks good. I tried to call New Found Metals but got no answer. I'm located in Port Orchard so not too far for me to go. they may be cost prohibitive though at almost double what other chocks are going for, but I like to support local businesses.

We installed the New Found Metals 8" Cleat Chocks on our boat about 10 years ago and have been happy with them. They're a bit of a compromise, but have worked well for us.
