I'm hoping someone here will be able to point me to a good cookbook for fish. It's not my specialty at all and I'd love to be able to do a bit more.

Thanks,
Karen

James Beard's New Fish Cookery is a fine choice.

Thanks Richard. That looks like a good one. Oddly enough, Rob already had your book in our Amazon shopping cart...just waiting for something else to get us above $25 for free shipping...now both books are on the way.

Mark Bittman (NY Times) has a good fish cookbook that is my go-to source most of the time. I have many of the Cooks Illustrated books and have subscribed for many years but have found them to be curiously weak in the fish department.

Come to think of it, I'd have to agree about the lack of fish recipes in the Cooks' Illustrated mags. But what they do have is pretty good.

The website is a great resource.

I get a lot of my recipes from Fish Recipes. There are several sites on line for recipes.

Karen,

I would suggest the "Anglers Cookbook" by Vic Dunaway. It is available at the FS-Store at www.floridasportsman.com/book online and the price is around $16.95. It tells you everything about cooking fish, cleaning, cutting up, frying, smoking, grilling, broiling, baking, etc. Lots of color pictures with the words and works good for any kind of fish. I have tried most of the recipies listed and all were very easy to do and tasted very good.

Hi,
You can't go wrong cooking with some Old Bay Seasoning, fresh dill, coking in butter or olive oil, and some white wine. Here is a link to some seafood recipes by fish

Hey Karen.... Look forward to hearing about the next C-Brat gathering in Franklin for a "fish-out". Let me know when you are ready as I brought back some nice Yellow Fin Tuna steaks that I am waiting to share with some folks. This looks like a great place to use them.

Hope you and Rob are doing well.

I received the Rays Boathouse cookbook as a gift -- it is good, thanks for reminding me. I will check out McCormick and Schmicks, both the restaurant and the cookbook, as I have not been there (haven't lived here long enough, I guess!)

Both these cookbooks are available used and very reasonable on Amazon.com. Both are on the way to my kitchen! :D

The Commander's Palace Restaurant in New Orleans has THE cookbook for all seafood, and of course the Cajun touches to many of them are exceptional.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the great ideas! I'm never far from the computer so the links are handy, and I think I'll be visiting Amazon again for a few more books - Merry Christmas to me :xlol (Patrick, will let you know when the big fish gathering in Franklin will be...must do a lot of practicing on Rob before then)

Althogh its not entirely fish , our friend Chris has some great recipes and a great restaurant in Birmingham. He pays homage to the Gulf Coast and some great food producers.

Marc,
This is a small world, we love The Hot and Hot Fish Club. Come to visit your son and we can drive down to Birmingham. Notice you have another Classic on your lot. Hope things are looking up for you and we see a turn around soon. It has been chilly here but the honda 2000 with a ceramic heater keep me toasty.
