Recently purchased a 2008 C-Dory 25 cruiser located in Saluda Virginia. Like to find someone nearby familiar with this boat who might go out for a couple of hours with me or their boat to "show me the ropes".

Welcome to the group and congrats on the 25! Im a new 25 owner as of late August and still feel a bit overwhelmed with all the new systems , boat handling and anchoring. I also do lots of solo cruising so Im forced to learn quick!

Good luck ! If you can't find a C Brat to help you in person, then you can always hire a captain from a local marina or charter. They'll be happy to take your money for a few hours! I actually considered that last month.

You're on a great forum as well. C Brats is a wealth of strong info and a classy group of guys.

Send a message to the mods and request an album. Then you can add some pics.

Imabrat2, Welcome and Congratulations on the new to you 25. You are going to love it. And yes, it may take some time, but you will get over that. I know how you feel. I did the same thing (with a 22) about 10 years ago, and had a local Brat come out and show me the ropes, the radar, the electronics, and the local area. Best part about that is he has become a good friend as well.

You didn't say much about your boat, or if you single hand or are out with a family group. Makes no big difference, but it is helpful for us to help you if we have a bit more info. I know the hesitancy about posting on a new site, so take your time and be comfortable. We do have some pretty good CBGT's (in English, that's a C-Brat Get Together), and well worth taking advantage of; you get to see boats, cool people and learn good stuff.

Make it a point to find someone with a 25 C-Dory, and you will not regret it. You can go to the "BRAT Map" on the top of the home page and find boats that are close to you and then contact them via PM. Most folks on here are plenty willing to help a fellow Brat.

As Jason said, this site is a wealth of info, so read like crazy. This was your first post, so posting is new, but you may have been looking around on here for who knows how long. That's all OK, and anything you want to know about C-Dory's is probably already here. you can go to the "Forums" tab and just look down that list for something interesting or pertinent and click on that. OR, you can use the search button and put in important words, with AND (capitolized) between the words to find what you want. Like "VHF AND radio AND MMSI" to find a ton of info on yup you guessed it, MMSI and VHF radios. Of "Trailer AND bunk" for instance.

To ask the Admin fora photo album, go to the "Memberlist" again in the button bar below the home page logo banner, click on it and the first 2 or 3 names that pop up will be DaNerd (Bill) and Tyboo (Mike). click on the PM button and ask them for a photo album. They are pretty good about replying with in a day or so. They don't ask for much, just to Be Nice, And they are pretty cool guys too.

Hope that helps some, and again, Welcome and don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the quick and encouraging response. It is fortunate to have access to a site such as this with such a wealth of information and experience. Because the boat needed all those minor repairs, bottom painting, and required decals/equipment, I haven't had it out yet. One problem (I need to research this one a bit more) is the insurance companies wanting to low ball me on the covered amount. I've been advised a marine survey if favorable would increase the coverage amount; but the the premium no doubt goes up considerably.

Many of us use Progressive. I happen to have mine thru International Marine Insurance in Annapolis--not that far from you. The local insurance agents don't understand that C Dorys retain their value. After I had upgraded the electronics, and trailer, I e-mailed Internal Marine Insurance, and told them what additions I had, and not problem bumping up the value of the boat/trailer.

Also refer any agents to the "for sale" section as well as "Market Place" which tends to show what the prices are. BUC or NADA do not represent the value, since few boats are sold thru bookers.

Good luck on the boat--the 25 is a great boat. Just got slow, and learn to use the systems, if you don't find anyone nearby. But the "C Brat" map, and the list of owners by states/cities may allow you to contact someone near you.

Iamabrat2,
You have someone very close to your location with a 25... Contact my friend Lou (vessel named Skimmer), as he is located on Wilton Creek and is very active with his boating activities and is a member of the USCG Auxiliary.
PS, Which C-Dory did you land?
