Marco Island FL to Long Key and-or Marathon FL

No word in a few days from Brother Mike about GYPSY. Should be making the treak between Marco Island FL to either Long Key or the Marathon area... Just looking at the maps....looks like other than water/swamps and the everglades.... not much in that distance heading south down the coast.

So... any FL travelers have any clue when GYPSY should pop back on the radar screen? Figure if they travel about 50 miles a day...ish?

I sent you detailed PM....but for the general public...they were taking the slow route..and hopping in and out of everglades from Everglades City to Flamingo when I spoke to them on Tuesday. Winds have not been very favorable in the past week...and Gypsy is in no hurry to get beat up ...this is a fun trip , not an indurence race. Keep the Faith...
 
Boris, the Trip from Marcos Island to Dry Tortugas, and to Key West is about 180 miles. Nearly 120 miles of this is heading into a stiff current up to 2.5 knots. I would be concerned that this is pushing the fuel capacity of the standard C Dory 22 (without extra fuel).
 
Mike.... Thanks much. I sure wish I could have talked Mike into taking my SPOT for this "outback" leg of their journey as to just poke an OK message each day. Having said that, they like the off the net mode very much and the wilderness is more than likely suiting them well. They do have VHF if any issues come up.

Mike showed me that Gypsy has a 58gallon single fuel tank with a 90 hp yamaha with a 8hp kicker .

I think he said he was getting 4mpg out of his c-22 .The last time we talked he was in Everglades city going on airboat rides so I think they are having fun . They probably will be in the Keys by this weekend.
 
Thanks Jim. Crazy... It never bothered me one bit when they were up here in our home waters and would drop off the map for a week... I know their boat is in great mechanical condition and with them putting over 400 engine hours a year on the boat, there should be no surprises on how far their ranges are. Then just as they were about to depart on the trip, they installed a kicker, then, on the trip, they added "Jed", the dingy, with a 3rd motor. They are more than likely, happier than hogs in a new pile of slop.... and loving just all the different little junk holes. I feel sure that they are good to go....but, I guess I have been spoiled with the dailey text messages and/or calls.

I check in on passageweather.com each day to check the winds, and today, as for a few days now, they have been favorable compaired to the rest of their trip....and, for their location and intended travels.

With 58 gallons, he would have a safe range of well over 200 miles (depending on the "mileage"). Current factory boats are listed at 46 gallons fuel--some in the past had less.

Byrdman got a check in message from Mike & Brenda this morning...saying they were in Flamingo, Fl and had no cell service...had to use someone elses phone to send a text.

No, Toyman ... not stranded , just stopping to smell the roses and waiting out the weather on Florida Bay. The winds have not been very favorable and the depths in Florida Bay adverage about 7 ft. on MLT and it doesn't take much wind to make for a very unpleasent ride. Like most of us..planning the Loop, Mike and Miss B have not set any deadlines to be anywhere at a specific time. They are taking their time and making the best of the bad weather to enjoy where they are at the time.
