Marinas in Portland, OR

Are there any marinas in the downtown area for either overnighting or at least tie up for several hours? I'd like to cruise up there (up river, but down south) and spend the day sightseeing downtown and pub crawling.

Here's the plan in case anyone is interested in joining us: launch at Kalama, WA, 31 May; up the Columbia to St. Helens, then up the Multnomah Channel to Portland; spend Saturday enjoying the city, and then maybe cruise over to North Portland Harbor and circumnavigate Hayden Island to look at the boathouses before heading back down the Columbia on Sunday. I might even take some time to cruise up towards Oregon City to look at all the houses I can't afford.

Any C-Beavers wanna share a pint while we're in town?

Riverplace is your best bet. The outermost dock is public and free except for a few times when its reserved for special events. I tied up there frequently this summer so the wife and I could go to dinner or cook out with a nice view. There's not a lot of information online so I'm not sure what the overnight policy is for the public dock. Even if they don't officially allow overnights, its not enforced at all. It's Portland after all.

The stretch from the Multnomah Channel to downtown Portland is very industrial. Downtown to Willamette Falls / Oregon City is nice. I keep my boat at the marina in Oregon City.

FYI - There is fuel in the Multnomah Channel and in Oregon City at Sportcraft Landing, but NOTHING in between. The few fuel docks that were between these places have closed down.

Keep me posted on your plans. I'd love to have a beer with a brat.

Thanks, guys.

Is that the marina just down from the Marquam Bridge and serves as yacht broker?

I'd like to make it to Oregon City, maybe we'll spend Saturday night there.... if there's beer worth drinking within walking distance, that is. ;)

Canby's not that far from Oregon City; we could have a mini CBGT. :D

If it were me, I'd probably stay downtown. Your beer walk-ability is much higher. Additionally, the Sportcraft Landing / Oregon City area gets nuts that time of year for spring chinook that stack up at Willamette Falls. At times, you could quite literally cross the river by stepping from boat to boat.

Rick,

Portland cruise is on my list of want to do's too. The last couple of years I have done some of it. I have launched on the Columbia, Marine drive, about 42nd Street, just up river from Roger's Marina. There is also a nice launch up river close to Troutdale.

It was an easy trip down to the Willamette junction and there was a marina just up the river on the starboard side, before we got to the St John's bridge. There was a park there with some dock space and a launch ramp. Only went as far as that bridge and park. Lots more to do there.

I haven't looked at the 2013 calendar yet, but would sure consider making the trip for a cruise gathering.

Circumnavigating Hayden Island is about as good as it gets for seeing the working/playing sides of the Columbia. There is fuel at Jantzen Bay and if you want a quiet water anchorage just head up the Columbia 5 miles to Lemon Island (the west end of Government island). Donaldson Marina, on the way, also has fuel.
I second the motion of Riverplace....about as good as it gets for being in the center of downtown Portland. The only disadvantage is the noise generated by I-5.

That would be great to have you along, Harvey. I've done the Kalama to St. Helens trip many times during spring salmon season. Now I'm looking forward to taking the Multnomah Channel to Portland to enjoy the small river feel and all the farm/dairy land along the way. Once I get into the mainstem Willamette, cruising up to Oregon City will be a trip of envy looking at those homes. So it'll be a cool transition from rural farmland to industrial waterfront to exclusive waterfront property.

I know SWMBO will want to walk through the Saturday Market in downtown, so we'll tie up at Riverside and do that. I imagine we'll make our way to the Brewery District for a beer or three. That should help me sleep through the noise of I-5.

We've been told that we should have breakfast at Mother's, downtown. Anyone been?

I think the Hayden Island thing is going to be nice. I always notice that water when I drive over the interstate bridge and wish I was there with a boat.

sounds like a fun trip, have to see how vacation and call gets spread out as i will have the weekend before off due to halibut derby, but if i am not working this sounds like a blast.

Would be fun to do a group cruise there. Don't know about staying downtown on the boat overnight. Might depend on where I can leave the tow rig and trailer. JakeB, if it works we could travel down together. Could make a small C-Dory parade. There are several Portland based boats that may be interested too.

I don't think there are any issues with leaving the tow rig and trailer at the Kalama launch. I've never heard of anyone having any problems there.
