Marinaut Update

I answered an ad about a used 2023 220 but when they got back to me. It wasn’t a used boat at all but they wanted to build me a new one. A lot of money to spend. With out being able to see one or get on it or take it for a test run. Hope it works for them but I think they will have to bit the bullet and build a few and sale them. Starts at 78,490 before you add the motor or any options.

Forgive me if this sounds a little "snarky", but how is this any better than either a C-Dory 22 or Venture 23 from a very established and proven boat builder, NMI?

My only official comment is that you seem to buy the hull, and then everything else is extra! Never heard of "extra" for v bunk cushions ($1160). Many of those extras are standard on any C Dory. You could get will into the $120,000 by the time you had a decency equipped boat.

But you could outfit it anyway you want at whatever level of spending you are comfortable with. If the bare boat was inexpensive enough and you had the time and the skills, this might not be such a bad idea. Buy what you want from the factory and do the rest yourself.

For example, you may not like the factory v-berth cushions (too hard, too thin, wrong color, whatever). So rather than pay for the factory ones and then discarding them, you just buy/make ones you find more suitable. How many C-Brats have "enhanced" the cushions that came with their boats?

I have.....and to emphasize your point, it cost $1800 (if I remember correctly)! True, my wife picked a somewhat more expensive fabric, but the final result is terrific (not to mention cheerful ).
