Mast

can you mount electronics such as a radar to the 21es's mast? anyone have any pics.

can anyone please list the uses/benefits of the mast?

thanks.

evilskier,

Yes you can. On my 21 mast I have a Garmin 18" dome and made a base out of stainless steel tack welded to the lower foot on the tower.

It works well and seems to be plenty stong, even with the mast folded over when trailering .

I also have the GPS ant. obove it on the upper foot .

The nav/anchor light is also mounted on top and does not interfere with night vision, and makes the 21 appear larger at a distance after dark.

The newest ones come with a mast that is already set up with a radar mount. Here's a picture:

Thanks for posting a picture , that is the same set up we have and all the 21ec models.
It is hard to tell from the picture but the mount is too small to fit even the smallest domes without some type of extension base to mount on.

size...that was my concern, the mount seemed too small. not that big of a deal, as the only thing i would add is a sirius antenna. i was able to board a 21ec with a mast this past weekend and checked it out.

thanks for the pic.

i checked out more pics of the 25 and saw similar set ups, looked good. i was so caught up with 21 pics, i more or less ignored 25s. anyone mount a Sirius antenna creatively??

Someone mentioned that the boat has 48 mile radar, which would make it a 24. I'll check on Monday.

Edit to add: That's a $4,000 retail GPS, and the electronics package is a $7,500 option. The depth/fishfinder function can't cost all that much, so it had better be the 24, which has a retail price of $2133.32.

evilskier, I am not sure what antenna your thinking about for your sirius.
Are you just talking about the one for the radio?
I have one of them, the antenna is very small on mine just a little bigger than a half dollar lets say.

When we take the tug out I usually just remove the car kit from the truck and bring it onboard , then we stick the antenna on the small dash and it picks up signal ok.
I have a small piece of velcro on the visor above the pilot house window on the visor and have stuck it up there a few times at the dock to get a better signal ,( just putting it up there outn the window by hand)

Underway it always worked ok inside on the dash, occasionally losing signal for a few seconds here and there but not too bad at all.

It is not on a fixed mount in the truck or the boat because it goes with me from car to car and boat to boat and also in the mount for the home kit .
HOPE THIS HELPS if this was the set up you have also, good luck .

the simple sirius radio antenna. i have a "car" kit that is neatly installed in my FJ, but want to go a more "hidden" on 21. just curious how it would look mounted to the top of the pilothouse.

i have experience with this particular antenna and reception is great.

I purchased the Sirius adapter that fits behind the factory Clarion at West Marine. I then purchased the low profile Shakespere SR25 antenna which I mounted on the roof of the pilot house behind the port top hatch. Works like a charm.

YES , remove one guide wire pull the pin and it lays over on a kick stand that flips up from the roof , be sure to put a bungee on it as it will bounce alot going down the road.
I always fear my radar will get messed up going down the road on such a angle but it seems to be fine every time, just watch out for low branches  we caught some from time to time in the mast usually because I was not paying attention .
no problems with the set up so far, and it looks to be well built.

I think we have the older set up, ours angles to the side .
The mount in the picture may be a new design , it looks like it would go lower than our side set up .

I havent seen that mast mount untill now .

Which I think is an improvement , and may work best ,just my opinion based on the fact it would be nice if our mast could be lowered more.

The new spotlight mount looks nice too, see ranger is always improving th
ings just takes a little time....
