This article raises many questions about judgments, priorities, responsibilities, resource allocation, international cooperation and even climate change. The bottom line is, however, a story of a mission of mercy in which the Coast Guard again steps up and does it's best.

I've been following that story for a few days now. At 1600 today they still had 100 mile to go. Still questionable as to whether they will make it. Could be a tough long winter if they get frozen in. Thanks for the link Marty.

Marty - I've been following that blog too! It's the most interesting source of information relating to this effort. Unfortunately, they lost 4-5 miles today (and will probably lose some more tonight). It's nice to watch this effort from the comfort of a warm office. It's hard, hard work for those guys.

"It was a rare display of being the best we can all be. Thanks

Kind regards to all

When I started this thread I thought of the many corollary issues this undertaking stirs up. What is so heartening is that regardless of all that, or, perhaps, in spite of all that, these two ship together struggled forward. It gives one pause, and, frankly, hope.

This is a good example on international relations, the common good, problem solving, etc

I like the comment about the Captain missing the borsch!

I am hungry again

Hi Brent- That's Capt. Pete Garay, an Alaska Marine Pilot stationed aboard the Renda. He is something of a poet/philosopher/sea captain. That's the best kind.
