MICHIGAN C-DORYs

With the "gatherings" being posted for C-Brats across the country . . . (and looking on the website at some of the "groups") . . . I'll once again suggest that we (the few...the brave...the "brats") check in on one another through a group listing -or- an occasional "I'll be at..." shout-out to those Michigan C-Dory owners who might be interested.
NOTE: This remark is from someone who just checked in at C-Brats to review my 2,346 postings-since-your-last-visit; my history at checking out the site is not stellar!!
But, every once in a while, I wonder what is C-Doing and whether things are hunky-DORY and even whether we might cause the world is end as we know it by getting four or five C-Dorys in close proximity to one another!!
The Driftwood Drei has been out on Lake St. Clair....playing around with US COAST GUARD helicopters (as part of USCG Auxiliary time); yesterday we had some fun in the six-foot waves (in short intervals from every direction) kicked up by the 18+ MPH winds on the Lake St. Clair puddle!!!

Ooooh, now that might be the real rapture...

Oh, if I ever get my boat done I'd love to join you and your fellow Michigandarians on the puddle.

Hope yer post pulls 'em out of the woodwork...

I'll be at Mott Island (Isle Royale) from 7/9 to 8/17 (weather provided); drop in for a brew at my favorite spot in Michigan. You'll see C-Green at a dock, tie up next to it, and come up the trail to the cabin (don't go between the two buoys marked "shoal", go around them; this is important when coming to my dock).
I'd love to do a fall color cruise around the Keweenaw but getting the color right with good weather is something that must be spur of the moment and not planned way ahead. Maybe after the wife retires I'll set up a summer fish and explore around the Keweenaw CBGT in July or August. Any interest?

As far as a gathering, we are normally available for 1 or 2 day weekend adventures and 1 week in mid August. But this year we might do a sta-cation to save some money, can't say for sure yet. This year we've been getting over to Orchard lake and one trip from Trenton to Toledo. Normally we get out to north Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair river. We'll PM if we are heading out that way.

And us trolls down here don't get to da UP much anymore since we bought a boat, can't afford the bridge fare. :wink

All the Michigan C-Dorys (and everywhere else for that matter) are always welcome to come gather/party with us in Guttenberg, Iowa on September 8/9&10.

After all, Michigan is not that far from us and needs to be represented, as of this writing we have boats coming from Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, (us in Iowa), South Dakota, Texas, Washington, & Wisconsin.

Best regards,

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

Hi Bruce,

I don't know what to tell you but I do envy you as your boat is in the water. Unfortunately, C-Batical is still on the trailer waiting to be commissioned for the year 2011. The weeks of rain have done me in; both in not being able to retrieve the boat from inside storage and also because I have been waiting for completion of a new driveway that has taken two weeks rather than four days as one would expect. The water behind my house was at flood stage up until a couple of days ago. I figure that I am about six weeks behind schedule. Getting together does sound like a fun thing to do though but at the rate I am going it will probably have to be sometime in July or August.

Thanks for checking in to the site again - we missed ya.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Planning to cruise the South Shore of Lake Superior in July. Putting in at either Black River Falls Harbor or Ontonogan and head East. Not sure of final destination as yet. We will PM you when we get close to Houghton on the waterway.

Hi Rich and Judy:

Have you cruised the southern shore of Lake Superior before or will this be your first time? We have been to the Apostle Islands the last two summers, and although we have made this an annual destination, I would like to explore new areas. Will appreciate your thoughts. I plan to be in Lake Superior in mid August. Nothing planned yet.

Ramon and Laura,

No, we have not done all of the South Shore before. Last year we were in the Apostle Islands and Black River Falls. We have the GPS charts for Lake Superior that were on our boat when we purchased it and decided to take advantage of it and explore further East. We also are taking along Bonnie Dahl's Superior Way and Richardson's Chart Book as cruising guides. Depending on the timing of our trip, you are welcome to borough our charts if you decide to head that way. They include all of Lake Superior both USA and Canada.

Rich and Judy,

Thanks for the offer. I also have GPS charts for Lake Superior and Dozier's Waterway Guide for the Great Lakes, which is pretty good. I was just wondering if you had already been to the area and could share some thoughts. If not before, see you in Guttenberg this fall--there are already 15 boats signed up.

I would be interested in a get together on lake St. clair. I keep Curly in the salt river off Anchor Bay.
I "ve never been on any C-Dory get togethers.

Hi Everyone! writing this from Baltimore Maryland, where we have been exploring the Upper Chesapeake extensively.
However, I have been offered a transfer back to Detroit, so, Lake St. Clair, I am coming home!
Look forward to meeting the other C-Dory owners in Metro Detroit. Spring will be here soon.
We had a SeaRay at the Grosse Pointe Woods marina for years, and there was a C-Dory there whose owner I never met. Anyone know who that was or what happened to that boat ?

Hi Joyce,
Welcome back to awesome Michigan and the Great Lakes. Lake St. Clair is a little more crowded than you remember but it still is my favorite spot. I have boated most of my life on Lake St. Clair and surrounding area, except for a few years when I lived in Washington DC. There are not many of us around the lake so I am not sure who may have kept their boat in Grosse Pointe but it may have been Bruce Weber/DRIFTWOOD DREI. He used to live in that general area and was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Check my photo album out and I am sure it will bring back some fond memories. Perhaps our wakes may cross next season.

Welcome back to Michigan. I'm still on Lake Superior and at Isle Royale in the summer with an open invite to all C-Brats. We are as far a you can get away from Lake St Clair and still be in Michigan; just a 12 hour tow and a 5 hour run, but worth it!
