Motor wanted for c-dory 25

I am looking to buy another outboard for my c-dory 25. I do whale watching tours with my boat and my honda has let me down and it took ten days to get it back up and running and I just cannot afford the downtime...So I am not in a hurry but if the right outboard ( single or twins) came along I would be interested in purchasing it. Must be in the Pacific Northwest.
Thanks

I think this may be the first post on outboards I've ever read about a Honda outboard failing. I don't know what the world is coming to. I'm a fan of twins, I must admit. Even with half the horsepower gone, there is still enough to save embarrassment in the commercial use of a boat. Yep, I'd say a twin set-up is the ticket. However, with twins, you do have twice the probability of an engine failing.

I wonder how many CD's are used in a commercial application? I've always thought of them as strictly recreational.

Chris,

Sorry to hear you are down. Check with Matt Gurnsey at Kitsap marine. I was just talking to him recently and I believe he had on in the size range you will be looking for.

I am not sure if this is a complaint against Honda, or outboards in general?
Also you don't say what size you want--but from 150 to 200 hp would seem to be logical for 6 to 7 people on a C Dory 25.

All outboards can have failures--as can any engine. I have heard of every brand failing at one time or another--sometimes after only a few hours.

I would doubt that twins, even if 90's would have enough power on a C Dory 25 to "save the day"--and have the speed to get to, and keep up with whales, in a Whale Watching Commercial boat.

Unfortunately there are not many used motors in this HP range, and if if they have been rebuilt--they are suspect. I would much rather buy a new engine, than a used, or rebuilt if my lifely hood depended on it.

C Dories have been used for Commerical fishing in AK for many years--and I suspect in many other areas. There have been C Dories used for Diving, law enforcement, and research commercial uses that I personally have seen.
