MPG on a 25 with a 200 Yamaha

I’ve usually just relied on the MPG the computer tells me (always about 2.75ish average) but this time I filled up, did 220 miles, and then filled up.

The computer said I burned 77 gallons but I was only able to put 65 gallons in it at the end of the trip.

If it’s correct I’m getting 3.23 MPG for the entire trip and that’s fantastic. I filled it myself and 100% it’s full.

I’ve averaged between 15-18 MPH except for the couple of NO WAKE areas.

Anyone else averaging over 3?

ken35216,

I tend to get something like your 2.7 MPG (statue miles) when mixing some hull speed with some planing. I doubt I would ever get close to 3.0, much less over 3.0, if I were mostly planing (BTW, I tend to run 18 to 22 MPH when planing). It may depend a lot on how loaded the boat is.....my boat is heavy with goodies.

My Yamaha meter(200 hp) shows best mpg when I am running 4100 and about 27 mph. Usually 3.0 to 3.4
My motor is all the way down but I play with the tabs

That's really good. How much of a load do you carry? Kicker, radar arch, canvas, full water and had, 2xanchor and a windlass?

I'm always wondering how much my mileage is related to my weight and an older engine.

Sorry for the delay replying to your questions to me.
The fuel use was what I saw a few days ago. I probably had 60 gal of gas, no radar, didn't have the camper back top up(folded), water heater full but h2o tank about 1/2 full and about 400# of humans. About 12 mph breeze. Ran with and against the current. 20' of 1/4" chain, 16.5 lb anchor and 200' of 3/8" rope rode. Coleman a/c on top.

That’s a good load so pretty great economy. Some heavy 25/26 foot boats are getting low 2. 30% better is incredible
