My new 25 !

I finally took possession of my new (to me) 25 after buying it a week or so before! It's all still overwhelming; it all came together very quickly. I had some busy days of registering the trailer, then registering the boat and then dealing with the marine shop where it was on "the hard" for a few weeks.

Anyway we launched it on Friday and I got it to my slip with no issues. I didn't actually use it until Sunday though. I was busy with my family on Saturday and I also had to deal with the tides since I have a low bridge clearance at my marina. But that one day of a "setback" (if you can even call it that) was very productive. I cleaned the cabin and got myself familiarized with the systems and different things. I have a LOT to learn! This boat is nothing like my last 2 C Dories. There are so many things I have to figure out like; the windlass, hot water heater, various bilges and pumps, Wallas stove, the guest battery charger, shore power system, AC, the washdown pump, the waste pumpout, the gray water pumpout, etc.... It's crazy!

On Sunday we took a nice cruise but the wind was blowing hard and the conditions were very rough. She handled great but I didn't really get to really test her out completely. I was only on the water for 2 or 3 hours (it didn't help that I started late either). Anyway regardless of that, I had a blast and LOVE the boat! I can't wait til next weekend (Labor Day) when I can really use her for a couple days and give a better review.

I'd like to thank some of the Brats with 25's for sale that I spoke to when I was in the process of buying.

Finally I'd like to thank Dave from Boston (Ma Belle, DaveH) ! If you never reached out to me then I'd never have found my amazing boat! It's so funny that last year when I was in the Charles River launching and using my 16 you were so close by with Ma Belle. What a small world! Thanks again Dave and it was great to meet you. You put up with my constant texting and so graciously called it "persistent" ! LOL

Congrats Jason, boat looks great! From reviewing your photo album it appears to be missing one thing that your other 2 had...Tinted Windows! 8)

Haha, you're right Mike. I'm still toying around with the idea of tinting them with 35% film all around but since I'll be doing lots of overnight trips then its probably not a good idea.

I haven't done any mods yet. She'll be looking a tad different soon! I have a few big aesthetic things that I'll be changing in September. In addition to a lot of electronic things........😎😎😎

Yes, it came with a Tidewater dually trailer with brakes and rollers Marty. No, I won't be towing it. I have a slip in a marina in Cape Cod. Hopefully I'll only be pulling it out 3 or 4 times a season (ideally only twice a season but im figuring it may need to come out sometimes for repairs or maintenance).

Just kidding of course. In actual fact I think it's cool that you go for what you want, and I can't imagine your new 25 looking so stock for very long :mrgreen: Will be fun to see what you come up with :thup

Then again, I have bought and sold 2 boats in the last 10 months. :lol: :lol:
 
What your going to need now is the Tomcat 255 :D Ahh just giving you a hard time. 25 is a wonderful boat. Enjoy it! That one looks especially clean. I like the anchor mat you have in the cockpit.

Congrats Jason. As a lurker this year I have watched your boat buying and selling adventures with both interest and envy. You packed a lot of boats into 2016!

(Although it sounds like you'll have no problem :wink C-Dorys will be perfect as they go up an down incrementally - 16', 19', 22', etc. etc.)

Yes sir! As much as I loved our C-dory and still miss her sometimes, we switched to a bigger Parker center console when we moved to the south. Love this boat, fuel burn of 3.4 mpg in the mid 30s mph cruising speed, and a top speed close to 50, should get us back in from the gulf stream safer in case of thunderstorms.

One day though, I'd like to have a Tomcat and go back to c-dory. I still love the brand and those beautiful boats. I think we'll miss the boat camping.
 
So I had 2 awesome days on the boat this weekend (before the storm)! I really had some time to use her and dig into all the new to me systems. The weather was still breezy both days so that made for very choppy seas but that was good for testing the 25's seaworthy reputation.

First things first....The Suzuki 200hp is a beast! I don't know what I'm gonna do with all that power. Lol. She's pulls hard and the WOT speed was like 35 or so. I didn't keep her there for more a few seconds because it was so choppy out there. I found a good cruising speed to be between 13-15 knots. That was with the rough conditions. Later in the day when the wind died down I was cruising around 22,23. That was nice! I could've easily increased that to 25-28 or so but I didnt feel the need to. On the lower side of the rpm range the motor is great too. I did some low speeds when i was exploring a little cove near the Elizabethan Islands. I did a good amount of cruising between 4-8 knots and the Suzuki felt right at home in that range too. This is my first Suzuki and I'm impressed! Lets see how she performs mechanically in the future. Before she hit the water we did the water pump, LU lube change, internal and external anodes, both fuel filters, spark plugs and the thermostat.

I loved having the trim tabs! My other CD's didn't have that. What a difference they made, once I figured out how to use them. One question though; Do they reset to the normal position when the key is off? Or do they stay however you left them? I have the Bennett brand, not sure of the model.

I also really liked the raw water washdown pump. It was great to rinse off my dinghy from the stupid sea gulls mess. Lol. Although, on Sunday night I had an issue with the washdown. It stopped working midway while I was using it but the light was still on. Im sure it tripped a fuse somewhere.....

I didn't use the Wallas stove yet but I will soon. I do really like the layout of the dinette and galley. Lots of room to stretch out and its very usable.

I'm in the process of compiling my mods that I want done this season. I also have a bigger list of things that I'll do over the winter when the boat is in storage and more accessible to have work done.

In the next few weeks I'll be adding 2 new marine speakers ( I already have 2 on board now), another 8ft Shakespeare antenna, a 2nd VHF radio, LED lighting throughout the vberth/cabin/cockpit, a 3rd battery, flooring for the cockpit and cabin, galley storage racks and other little things that I'm probably forgetting.

Long term wants: A good radar setup, full camper back enclosure and a large cabin roof top skylight. I will also add two window portholes in the v berth.

Ill be busy!!!!! Love the boat!
