My Stupid BlackBerry and Advice Sought on Android Phones!

People I know who have iPhones love them, even though they cannot use them half the time because of the lousy AT&T coverage. If that rumor is true about Verizon selling iPhones soon, why not buy a used/refurbished cell phone in the interim. Just Google "used cell phones" and you will find lots of businesses that sell the used stuff. Here is one of the links

Thanks, I had not seen this one. I achieved the same result with a trick from Crackberry, and all is well for the moment. I did a "Check for Updates" in the Desktop Manager with the battery out. This fooled the DM into thinking I needed a new OS installed, which it did - when it got to the "Re-boot" part I put the battery back in, and I had a fresh OS installed. I then re-registered, did a restore of my contacts from the DM, and held my breath. I had to re-load my apps, and also grabbed Google Mobile App, which is pretty awesome. Day One (yesterday) it was still doing random re-boots and running the battery down. Today no re-boots and it seems to be holding a charge. So I am keeping my fingers crossed, if this lasts, maybe I can hold out to the end of my Verizon contract...what a sad commentary on BBs though that you have to jump through hoops like this to have a barely functional phone.

Pat,

I have a blackberry tour and had issues with it after a few months of use, it wouldn't pass data.

Called the tech support and they walked me through a hard reset.

The reset worked by placing a call to (ie 00000##) not 100% sure of that number...but something very close. Then it pulls up a menu and you can then do the reset from there. it apparently downloads the software again...not just a reboot.

Give them a call and try new software.....

Coverage on all of the big for networks is spotty at best in places; there is no such thing as the perfect net, merely the least annoying ones.

Pick the top few places you are likely to make the majority of your calls, ie. work, home, your favorite fishing hole, the local chandlery, and the roads that connect them. Ask your friends what their experiences have been at those locations, and which carriers they have.

If you'd like to try an iPhone without a commitment, email me and I can loan you my old 3gs; then you could try it for a month on a prepaid account rather then signing a contract.

If Mr. Anderoid comes up with a version which could change tires AND work on wallasses, ve believe it would be a big hit with Mr.Anderson!

I dropped my Blackberry Storm 2 from a 2nd floor balcony the other day . Landed on a brick pathway . Thought to myself ,self, "ok it's time for that new phone" . Battery and back of the phone all 5 feet away from each other . Put the battery in , booted up , still works flawlessly . I have had really good service from my storms . Only had 1 screen fail in 2 years . Operating system software has been my biggest issue. The latest update wiped out the audio quality of the phone so I reverted one release back and it works well .I am tethered to it in my office right now as our DSL is down and it quite noticeably faster .... Ill go android when the time comes most likely, I am more attracted to the open source lifestyle .

Verizon just announced they will start selling the iPad on Sept 18th. The iPhone may not be much further behind.

I hope so. Otherwise there are going to be a lot of people holding iPads up to their ear just to make a call. :)

Recent surveys indicate that up to half of iPhone users would like to change to Verizon. Also, at this point it is in Apple's interest to diversify as it is the only way to maintain market share against Android phones.

Besides, part of the original deal was an exchange of exclusivity for unlimited data plans, and now that the unlimited plans have gone away there is little incentive to maintain exclusivity.
