I had to go to graduation June 19th, reported for duty in Elfin Cove on the 20th. I got off the plane, got to shake Dr Bob's hand and chat for about one minute before having to procede with getting moved into my room and boat. It would have been nice to visit with Dr Bob longer but I had to get moved in my boat and prepare to take folks out the next day.
I was wondering all winter what boat I would end up running this summer, ended up with the same 32' Little Hoquim I had last summer. Thats a good draw as it's an excellent fishing platform, the down side is that it rides and handles just like a big C-Dory, a little rough, caution needed on a following seas.
Like the the last three summers, the starboard 250hp suzuki outboard took a dump towards the end of the season. That engine has yet to make it through a season. With just a few weeks left to go it failed again. Rumor has it that boat will be sporting a pair of 300hp Mercs next season
The last few weeks I ran the bosses baby. Over the winter he located the first charter boat he bought. Back in the old days he ran a 1977 Uniflight out of Westport, he found the boat in CA in derilict condition and bought it. He had the boat totally reconditioned, removed the inboard added an offshore bracket and hung a pair of 225hp merc outboards on it...it's a sharp looking hot rod of a boat that rides like a damn cadillac.
Had some interesting boating weather in August, plenty of thick fog, one day we ventured out to fish and enjoyed a nice breeze, nothing like 45knt gale force winds to make an interesting day. I hid behind the Inian Islands and had a pretty good salmon day, it was tough goings.
