Naming my boat

You could name it "Tora" and you'd be sure to get everyone's attention each time you got on the VHF, eh?

I've got a few names in mind, but my wife is adamant that you can't name a boat (or a human child, come to that) until you've gotten to know her a little bit. Still, I like "Shoal Bandit" because of the C-Dory's shallow draft. Of course, you might look a little foolish if you ever ran aground. I crossed the Pacific in a sailboat named Hurricane, though...some of us just like to tempt fate.

I had a promiscuous fishing buddy quite a while back who named his boat the "Old Lady" That way he could cover his tracks by saying he was just going out on the old lady again. As I recall he also had a dinghy called "Tender Behind".

Now picture follwing his boat with the names on the transom and the dingy in tow: "Old Lady" "Tender Behind"
 
Tom and Shan.... What about .... "Skidoo"... like 22 skidoo.... or 23 skidoo? oh well Could be related to "skidding" in the shallows... Skidder? oh well

I wanted to name mine lots of neat names, but most were already taken...

If you like a name, use it! You wouldn't not name your child "John" simply because there were other kids with the same name, would you? IMHO, same difference. I'm sure that somewhere there is at least one more "Lori Ann," and it doesn't bother me.

I think you have heard me say this before somewhere but I think of a C-Dory as a close relative of the working boat. Many of the fishing, ore and push boats are named after people. When I was in Newfoundland many fishing boats were named after children, couples, Etc. When I named my boat I thought about all my relatives and my hardworking, unselfish, loving Grandmother came to mind. Her name was Minnie Swann. As my Grandfather always said,have you ever seen a swann without two en's?

I think I'll just call the boat C-Dory - I know, WN 0621 RA - bet thats a unique name - and I'll already have it on the boat for all to see.
Well - think I've beaten this one to death ...
So when is oldgrowth going to increase the beam of his C-Dory?
Now that would be a real challenge.

C Dory buyer in first gear to the boat shop. Thats right .Im out of the denyal mode and almost ready to put out the money . Anybody got any lasting advise or forever hold your peace. Prince William Sound ,Here I come . By the way the C- Cruiser 25 foot reminds me of the Lobster Boats where I grew up in Maine.

No pun intended. There are a lot of interesting names out there.Seems like one has to get beyond bazaar to find one that isnt secured to a hull.

Anybody worried about the future of gas for your boat. I really fear the thought of having a 90K$ yard ornament with $5-$8 dollar a gallon gas or non at all.
We are still at $2.20 a gallon here in Eagle River,Alaska. Diesel is at $2.51 a gallon. I hear that places in the midwest are enjoying $1.70 a gallon

It hit $60 a barrel today for the first time in a while. Maybe you guys should "get in the queque" at Oldgrowth Dave's and have your boats shortened to 16 footers. Sorry, I spend too much time on this site.
 
When the gas gets too expensive you can still do what I do. At 5 MPG I wave goodbye to a lot of my big boat friends tied in their slips.
 
By the way, I get this popup window from Norton System Dr. that says "optimazation... 48%". Is this a good thing or not?

Also, while I'm here, how do I post an image in a thread from "my pictures" files?

You guys are really helpful-if anybody is going to Safeway could you pick up a few things for me? Seriously, Thanks for all the considerable help. I appreciate it.
