When the big push for the Droid came out and Verizon was hammering AT&T and the iPhone, I figured there was a lot of "bridge burning" going on there. I bought the Droid on the first day they were available. About 6 months ago, I read the "scoop" about the iPhone being made for GSM and CDMA so Verizon would have it. It has become a non-issue for me. Besides a guitar tuner, a bar code scanner, 4 or 5 weather apps, and the snow blower attachment, the only other thing I've been waiting for on the Droid was the Navionics apps. I like it. Droid does. And it doesn't matter much to me anymore which carrier has what. I'm on Verizon. And here in the boonies, the options are: Verizon or nothing.
I am in violent agreement with you about Verizon, and thank John for his comments on AT&T coverage.
I had the first Android, on T-Mobile, because I also like the Google/Open Source philosophy. Changed to Blackberry because when I went to Verizon it was their only phone that would tether my MacBook. When my Blackberry contract is up, I would like to try out the Droid, possibly the iPhone, but whichever one I get must allow me to tether my laptop.
I agree with John's son re: Flash but think it will eventually be a moot point because most everything is now coming out in both Flash and HTML5, thanks to the market share of the iPhone (leaving aside technical arguments pro/con Flash.)
One somewhat minor advantage of the iPhone for me is seamless integration of iCal, Address Book, etc. between it and my other Apple computers (I use The Missing Sync to synchronize my Blackberry.)
One feature of iPhone4 that might be a killer app (for me) is the video chat, if my kids also get iPhone4s, or if it works with iChat.
