I've had to mount my Honda 9.9 kicker on an outboard bracket to clear the trim tab. This sets the kicker farther back than the main. A tie-bar won't work on this set-up. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what was the cure?

My kicker is mounted on a "mini jacker" bracket. The motor clears the trim tab just fine and it doesn't sit further back than the main. Maybe a new bracket? Otherwise there's a $2,000 fix called a Tr-1 Gold autopilot but that's probably not the answer you were wanting.

Spencer- I'm interested in the jumpseat in the picture. Can you point me to some info about it? Thanks.

I hope I am interperting your question/problem properly. Kind of the same thing happend to me. I used a Fulton bracket to mount a small kicker. It had to be placed in such a position as not to interfere with the main motor when turning, so it is mounted a bit starboard of the main. This small kicker was selected because it is used on my inflatable (short shaft) so I needed a bracket to lower the motor for the correct height for the C-Dory.(long shaft) Since it is only intended as a back up in case of main motor failure, this was the route I chose. I fabricated a small angle iron bracket to the main motor which gave the dual motor mounting rod (Panther, sold through Cabelas) the ability to control both motors while steering the main. I now have the ability to steer the kicker via the main. I have some pictures in my album, but not of the bracket. The boat is being serviced and I should have it back this week and will post some pictures.

Hope this helps.

You can usually still make a tie bar work, although it may take a longer one (cabelas) and some radical bending and/or an extention for the short steering arm on the kicker to get it closer to in-line. If you consider going the longer arm route, make sure the longer arm does not interfere with steering\sidewall clearances and tilting radius. I did both on my old motor setup and it worked well. Unfortunately I changed the setup and can't post a picture. But it's something to think about.

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll make an extension from the kicker to get it more inline with the main. Then a tie-bar should work.
