Need quick advice about potential purchase tomorrow

So I might have found a real deal on a c-dory. it's a 2003 22' cruiser that has supposedely been barely used and in storage most the time. I'm told that it looks new. I have few details about any upgrades that might have been done because the husband is out of town and the wife doesn't know much so I'll know more when I see it. The problem is that someone is going to view it right after me so I feel like I need to be able to say I'll take it right there. I just want an idea if the price would be too good to pass up. They want 37.5K. Now what I do know is it has twin 40hp Honda's and it does have a wallace stove. She did say that they never got around to buying electronics but this is kind of a plus. The trailer is like new as well. The way I figure it even if they didn't upgrade anything else it's well worth 37.5K am I right? I'll let you know what I do. Thanks for any advice.

If the hour meters jive with the claims and the appearance, then it might be a fantastic deal. There have been equally good, or better deals, in the past (B~C's Blue~C comes to mind). But, as you have probably discovered in your search, the fantastic deals are pretty rare. And if it happens to be close to you already, then this might be your destiny.

That's just my 2¢. But you still have another $37,499.98 difference to make up, so it's your call. My guess is if you like what you see, and you pay what is asked, you won't be finding anybody on here that will be second guessing you.

Shop around for the financing, if you need it. Most lenders go by NADA, which would list that boat closer to the low twenties in value. NADA don't know C-Dorys. When we bought our first CD, my wife played three different credit unions against one another until one of them finally gave the terms she wanted.

So best of luck to you, and whatever decision you make will be the right one.

P.S. You're right about never having the electronics being a good thing. As with anything eletronic, three year old stuff is worth a fraction of its new cost. Plus, you get to pick and install to suit.
 
That's what I would figure too. By the time I hung a motor on my 2003 with the Wallas, refrig, etc., it was nearing 40, so you should be in excellent shape (bunk tandem trailer on mine included).

I'm secretly hoping that there are more upgrades and these folks just don't know what it's all worth but I'm more prepared that they didn't do many upgrades but that's ok there isn't really much more I would do anyway other than electronics.
 
WHO, HANG ON THERE, the husband is out of town and she's sellin the boat? damn, I hope he knows about all this :) .....what Mike said........sounds like you're going to go look at basically a new boat at a used price...sounds like a fair deal

LOL ya that sounds funny. He must really trust his wife. She said he was out of town on a harley ride or something. Again I'll post my experience and maybe a few pictures tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers.
 
mine has a cord from the fridge to plug into the shore power... would thing the most you would look for is a plug from a battery charger if theirs one built in so to speak ... inverters come in around "one boat unit" ... if theirs no tv ..fridge ..wet bar... bank of battery's theirs probably no inverter .. a dock extension cord must have a "dock" connection ... looks like a dryer plug (male) but smaller on the one end and the other end is regular plug (female) .. hope this helps ...

Anyone can add an extension cord and a busbar (multiple outlet) loosely to a boat and have an informal shore power set up. Done right it works, and is cheap.

If you're looking for a formal Shore Power set up (a $975 factory option), the boat will have a through the cabin plug in fitting probably yellow in color with an attached cover and made by Marinco mounted on the side of the cabin. It will have a formal electrical panel with three circuit breakers inside the cabin, and there will be three 120 volt outlets inside the cabin, one with GFI protection. The current factory set up also includes a battery charger.

Lastly, the boat owner will have a special marine extension cord (again yellow and made by Marinco) for plugging in the boat into the dock power.

Hopefully, this should allow you to determine if the boat has the factory shore power or the equivalent. Joe.
 
Ok so potentially I own a 2003 22' C-dory if I don't back out tomorrow.

I went and looked at it today and this is what I found

It's in great shape although they should of washed it and scrubbed some of the scuff marks off all the white areas but I could do this myself. No major blemishes.

Twin 40hp Hondas, props don't have any damage and appear to be used very little.

Ez load trailer with bunks not rollers. Has surge brakes and is single axle.

Has the wallace diesel stove
Anchor deck pipe

It appears to have hydraulic steering but now don't laugh at me but I don't exactly know what to look for. I didn't see any cables attached to the engines there is a big hose going to the one on the starboard side that connects into a push rod.

Again they want $37,500 firm with people in line to see it.

So as you can see it's pretty bare as far as tons of upgrades. But the biggest upgrade that it has is the wallace stove.

I guess I just wan't to know if this is a good deal or if it's just ok? The way I figure it using 2005 pricing it would cost me approximately $46,746 to buy new. That would be msrp on everything so I don't know if you can get any knocked off but I would guess not much. Using 2006 pricing it would go higher although I understand there are some features that become standard.

Still a good deal?
 
Sounds like a nice boat! No one can answer the question of if you should buy it but you. As for price, there aren't that many of them for sale and those that are usually sell pretty quick. So it is a sellers market!

I went with the 27' in Texas in large part due to the price. I felt I got a great deal. Had I been able to talk the wife into a more expensive boat I would have been looking for just what you found! I would make your loan for the additional cost of the electronics as you will want to have them on the boat anyway :)
