New C Dory Fanatic

Hello C-Brats,
I have been a forum member for a while, but this is my 1st post. I just wanted to introduce my wife, Cheryle and I and to tell you all how much we enjoy the forum. I continue to be impressed by the knowledge and humor of this group and your willingness to share it.

We bought a 2000 CD 22 about a year ago and have managed to squeeze out 30 days on it over the year. This CD was a “commuter” configuration with port and starboard bench seats plus the copilot and helm seats for a total of six. We liked the ‘roominess’ of this setup and wanted to modify it to suit or needs. I have been making mods since day 1 and am still working on it. I have retained the ability to seat 6 in the pilot house, when needed for grandkids, but have added a galley and Wallis for living aboard. I hope to post some BEFORE and AFTER pics before too long.

We especially want to thank Chris Custer, C Weed, who was gracious enough to meet us at Lake Martin to show us his CD 22 and give us a great short course on its pros and cons. Meeting Chris, reading the forum and understanding the many attributes of this unique little pocket cruiser made our decision easy.

With retirement a little over a year away, we think of little else but cruising on the CD. There is a lot to learn first, but our ultimate dream is to do the Great Loop. Our short-term dream, is to meet our inspiration, Bill and El.

We are really excited about the CD Gathering on the Cumberland in April and can’t wait to meet some fellow brats.

Happy Cruising…..

Welcome Richard & Cheryle,

Sounds like you've been busy getting enjoyment from your C-Dory. Glad you have met some other C-Brats out there. Good group of people for sure!

Will look forward to photos of your boat when you have time to upload a few.

If you're ever in the Northwest we'll hope to meet you!

Welcome! This is a great site and you are sure to find answers to almost any question about C-Dorys or boating in general. Looking forward to your before and after pix.

Welcome! Those are some great plans you're preparing for.

You'll notice a link to a new album set up for you in your profile info. It would be neat to see some pictures of how your boat is set up. It will also be nice seeing the places you will be going soon.

Thanks for being here.

Mike

Richard and Cheryle, welcome ! We hope to see you at the Gulf Coast Gathering in October ! Or before if you want to see our great cruising area . My son lives in Huntsville and if I get up that way soon Ill try to say hi.
Marc

Richard and Cheryl: It will be great to meet you and I am truly looking forward to seeing you in Mt. Juliet, TN for the Cumberland River Cruise. Email me with your travel plans...

I can not wait to see some pics posted of your "commuter" version, or I think I have heard them called a "sport" version in the past. Still think they need to do that with the CD25...or one of the "other hulls" in the 25/26' range they have gotten.

Marc/Wefings: Now then Marc.... I have made the trip south to Wefings countless times. Your son in Huntsville.... you could take the CD25, pause in Huntsville long enough for your son to jump on board, and wow the fun we could have on this Cumberland Gathering. Just call it a boat show...and the accountants will never no the differance....but Shug and Anita might..... I know they both love the boats too.

Richard & Cheryle,
It's great to have another CD in Albama. Welcome neighbor! Cathy & I keep C-Pearl on Lake Martin. Make sure to let us know when your heading that way. We already have met up with Rick & Donna "Foggy Dew" a couple of times. It would be great to get C-Weed, Foggy Dew, C-Pearl and you guys together and meet at different spots around the state. It probably wouldn't take much to talk Byrdman into joining. There for sure is plenty of water to explore in our great state!
Looking forward to meeting you in person at the Cumberland.
JB

Welcome!

Hope to meet you guys out on Lake Martin sometime. We're out there every weekend. It would be cool to see the way your boat is set up. Shoot us a PM anytime!

Rick & Donna

We want to thank you all for the warm welcome and invitations. It is truly great to become part of this family. We look forward meeting and comparing notes with other CD fanatics.

Hi Richard,

WHAT? No photos?? I for one would like to see your interior mods of that rare rig and a few nature shots.
You have got some talent with a shutter. :photo

Glad to hear you are enjoying the modifying and usage of your cruiser.

Hello Mr C Weed,
As soon as I finish the next few mods I promise to post a few pix. This working stuff really cramps my style and cuts into our Cruising life. I hope that I can find the BEFORE pix made before starting to change things.

BTW- where can I find the washers that need to be replaced when lower unit plugs are removed to change lube?

Richard

Richard: The safest bet is to purchase the original part number washers/o-rings from your engine brand parts dealer. Change both fill and vent plug seals. Fill from the bottom hole until it flows out the top vent hole.
