New C-Dory Owner

Well, we just took the plunge and bought a 2007 C-Dory 25! Formerly the "Dah Who" out of Wilmington, NC, the "Delfin" now hails from Emerald Isle, NC. We look forward to exploring from there on day trips and then on overnighters.

We're experienced inland boaters on outboards and inboard ski boats, but a C-Dory on the coast is a whole new ball game for us. Running to "Shack" to see the wild horses and hunt for shells, visiting Cape Lookout, searching for sharks teeth on the barrier islands, Beaufort for lunch or dinner, and cruising the ICW are all in our sights.

We already experienced adventure on our maiden voyage last weekend. One reason we picked the C-Dory is the shallow draft. People say "In Bogue Sound, 3 feet is good water." Well, that means you have to know exactly where you are going or you simply run aground. We had training in our area before, but when we got to where a "white drum" use to be, there was no white drum. There was a white PVC pipe sticking up nearby. We mistook the pipe for the drum and crossed the shoal at (evidently) the wrong spot. We nicked the prop on a shoal. No big damage, but on the first time out? Welcome to the Carolina coast! I guess we got that over with. Next time out, we trimmed the engine up more and got better directions!

On that same first trip, we were only out for a little over an hour and were pretty much surrounded by dolphins. They were jumping and splashing and having a great time. We took that as a good omen (well, besides the whole prop thing) and named our boat after Delfin, the greek name of the dolphin that helped Poseidon find his wife. (and it happens to mean "From Fin" in spanish)

We look forward to many adventures on Delfin, fixing her up as we go, and being a part of this great group of C-brats!

Congratulations! Enjoyed reading your post since I have just ordered a C-Dory 25 Cruiser. Can't wait. I've had many boats -- bass boats and others for fishing but this is the first one that my wife is excited about getting. Should be a fun thing to do together. Gotta hand it to the C-Brats who have helped so much. You are right -- what a great group. I don't post much but I read this site almost everyday. Enjoy your boat. We hope to be out there with you soon.

You've got the right boat for your country. Congratulations.

If I remember NC correctly, now's the time to invest in a small A/C. Look through the threads herein.

Good luck, Boris

Fin,

Welcome to the Family!

You'll have a ball in your boat, and as you adjust to it - your horizon's will just keep getting wider and wider. The potential for these boats is almost limitless.

Work on your "overnighting" techniques. Find what works for you; and what doesn't, and pretty soon you'll be longing for trips that go for a week or two; then a month, or two; and longer. You will find that the limits are your Time - not the boat.

C-Dory's are addictive.

...welcome to the Addiction!

Best,
Casey

Hello and welcome ! I hope you will consider coming to the NC C-Brats gathering in Sept. You can meet alot of local brats and maybe learn a few things, steal decorating ideas.. and have a great weekend with new friends. Be safe out boating ! Take care, Tracy

Fin,

Welcome. I believe that makes five C-Dorys in/around/near the SOBX (e.g. Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, EI). Not all are registered on C-Brats. I'm in Beaufort. Bogue Sound, yeah, 3' is GREAT depth anywhere around Bogue Sound and Swansboro - you need to noodle your way through the marshlands. My boat (ANTIBODY) is in slip 61 @ Town Creek Marina, Beaufort.

I'm heading up the ditch tomorrow evening about 5pm to M&M's restaurant in Oriental. IMO, the best restaurant in Oriental - not well known, great food, easy on the wallet, nice seating areas (inside/outside), nice bar area, one block walk from the docks, and a very pleasant/cheerful/accomodating wait staff.

From the Gallant's Channel Bridge (Beaufort), it's ~40 minutes up the ditch and across the Neuse.

Flat water all the way.

Welcome aboard.

Norm
