New from Ranger Tug

Excitement at the Seattle Boat Show with a new line announced by the folks from Ranger Tug. The Cutwater 26 and 28 will be built at a new facility in Munroe WA. Very similar to the current Tugs, but with a higher cruise speed of up to 25 knots or so.

Real interesting. Wonder if they will be trailerable w/ the standard max 8.5 foot beam like the Ranger Tug 25 and 27 or be oversize (beam-wise) like the 29. The brief article does not really say.

Anyway, nice catch and thanks for the heads-up on the article!

Take care,
Dan

I saw this thread over on the TugNuts site and have to say that is a FINE looking boat. Assuming build quality and attention to detail that the Ranger Tugs offer, it should be another great niche boat. Diesel power, lots of windows, comfortable cruiser for a couple. The first of the baby boomers will be turning 65 this next year, and will be looking for extended getaways; that looks like another great option for those looking to cruise. :thup

I got the news release from Tim last week and forgot to post about it. Looks like a great boat to me. You can see the tug in the styiling. I would be really interested in the ride of the stepped hull. I have seen it used in much faster boats but have never ridden in one. The lay out has the head forward and down which should allow for a great view from any where in the cab. Cant wait to see it at the show.

Certainly very interesting boats--I would like to see what the dead rise is (they talk about a stepped keel, and engine bulge)--of course the proof is in the ride.

I see the two feet difference in a different light. The bigger boat is only 500 more lbs, and can utalize a 260 hp 6 cyl engine, vs the 180 4 cyl engine. That 2 more cyl will increase torque by 30%--and that is huge. The 28 should be adequately powered. We will have to see about the 26--probably OK--but I suspect that the 30K will be money well spent for the better ride and faster speed.

and 2 ft may not sound like much, but 16 sqft does. and at 2 by 8 1/2 thats what you get. Its a big differance. just look at the 25 ranger vs the 27 ranger. of for that matter my 27 vs a 25 cd.

The 28 is 9' 1" wide.

I like the look of these boats. I've been keeping my eyes out for a replecement for the 27 Shamrock MAckinaw, and these could be good sellers.

Lets see, 26' boat, $140,000...yikes!

I'm assuming this is a conventional inboard, or maybe vee-drive?

Definitely beyond my ability to pay for, and probably beyond my handling skills, without thrusters, that is.

Compare the cost of a Ranger Tug SC 25 or 27. It used to be that you could buy a new 26 foot boat for $6,000--but those days are long gone. At that same time you could buy a good new car for less than $1,000!
The boats are going to reflect the cost of petrolium products, and since oil is up, resins will be up etc...
