New Guy!

Amphion

New member
Hello Everyone!
I just joined the site today. I am looking at getting a boat this summer and was impressed with the C-Dorys. I have been reading some of the posts and it seems this is a pretty happy bunch of boaters!

I was interested to see which model you would recommend. I have a wife and a 2 year old daughter. Enjoy fishing, not into water skiing, but maybe pull a tube occasionally. I would like to be able to overnight for a night or two as there is lots to explore around here. To keep my "better half" happy it needs to have a few creature comforts.

Any opinions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome Amphion to the C-brats. I'm sure that you'll find lots of great support here. I'll leave it to the more experienced crew to suggest a boat for you. But you cannot go wrong with a C-dory, whichever one you choose.

Amphion,

You live in my backyard, or I do in yours. Your family fits into a 22 like a glove. And after you get to know some of the C-Dory family over the next few years (which you will) you can always move up to the 25.
I am sure you have spent time looking through the C-Brats site and already have an idea of which boat your family will fit into.

Hope to meet you someday. The C-Brats have get-togethers often during the spring thru fall.

For just the 3 of you a 22 sounds just right. The price is reasonable for some, it's easy to tow and store and certainly can sleep you all. We started with a 22' sailboat and (usually) it was doable with 2 adults and 2 kids.

There is a C-Dory dealer in Port Alberni, BC. I know its a far piece, but call him and maybe you can look at a 22. Or you could come down to Washington and visit one of the dealer there. I'm not suggesting that you buy a new one, but just get an idea of what a 22 is like.

Thanks for the quick replies! I was thinking of the 22'. I am going to take in the Vancouver Boat Show next week and hopefully one will be there.

Amphion -
Welcome to the site. We have traveled many miles on our 22 with grandkids aboard - from kid so young the cockpit was her playpen, to some now off to college.

Your two-year-old might enjoy it if you read her the boating tale written by our 11-year-old grand-daughter.

It's cozy in a 22, but great for the uses you described. Once again, welcome aboard!

welcome aboard. The 22 would fit your family well. My 22 is my second C Dory after a 19 for a couple of seasons. I'm happy to show you my boat if you like.
My # at the store is 250 758 8048 where I'm usually at Tuesday thru Saturday or shoot me a PM and we can get together.

Welcome aboard. The 22 is the least expensive, and lightest to tow (about 4500 lbs). There is not as much privacy, but there is plenty of room for a family of 3. The head is a porti potty under the V bunk.

The C Dory 25 is considerably bigger. There is a fully enclosed bathroom (head), and a slightly larger V bert, plus forward facing front dinette seat.
The boat is about 6500 to 7500 lbs to tow.

The Tom Cat has the most room, is more expensive, is considerably faster, and in my opinion is a much better riding boat. The head is slightly larger, and the forward berth is huge, and much easier to get into. It is close to 10,000 lbs on the trailer.

On any of the boats, I would recommend a full aft cockpit enclosure. This gives you a "second room" and a good "mud room" for those climates where it rains more.

Read Bill and El's adventures. Any of these boats are capable to taking you almost anywhere in the US, including Alaska.

I was browsing the Boathouse site (in Port Albernie). They have a 2005 22' Cruiser for $39,900. It has low hrs. on a 90hp Honda with 9.9hp kicker and good electronics. It might be worth a look.Good luck with your search.

This site and its members are really amazing!
Thank you all for all the responses. I am even more eager now to get to the boat show!
I saw the online listing of the boat in Port Alberni too. Is the price that Port Boat House is asking fairly reasonable?
I find so few of C-Dory's for sale its hard to compare.

Anyway, I hope to meet some of you in the future!

Oops! forgot a few things..

1. No I did not serve with the Royal Navy Submarines(I scuba dive..does that count?javascript:emoticon(':)')). I live in Victoria and I have seen the name here used a few times...street name etc. I believe there was a ship named the Amphion that came into this harbour and I just liked the name.

2. Thanks El and Bill on Halcyon, the story is really good. I will show my daughter tomorrow.

3. George, I might give you a call next time I plan a trip up island. We are relocating to Powell River in June. That means Desolation Sound will be right around the corner!

Thanks again.

Christian,

Hi and welcome aboard. If you are thinking of going to Vancouver for the boat show and hoping to see a C-Dory there, you are going to have to take a ferry ride and a chance that there will be one there, (and I would bet not) so, take a ferry ride south, (Coho - Victoria to Port Angeles), and I'll pick you up, show you one or more C-Dory 22's and get you back to the ferry.

You wouldn't even need to drive on. I can show you mine and maybe another one or two, guaranteed. Might even find one for sale. Closer than Port Alberni, just to look. We could make this work :smiled

Enjoy the shopping. The 22 Cruiser would be a good fit, but then, there are the personal choices that come into play, high top, or angler, single or twin, and much more. It is worth it to really look at what you want to do on the boat, and then use that info for defining the decision of what to look at and finally take home.

And when you do move to Powell River in June look us up. We have the only C-Dory 25 in Powell River. We've lived here for just over a year now and are looking for a few more C-Brats to move to town or at least stop in on their cruises north.
Cheers

I have another appointment in Vancouver so it fits in well to visit the Boat Show.
I am sure I will return with loads of brochures and loads my own photos to scan through.

Hey Ron, I will definitely look you up once we get landed there!

Cheers!

I'm sure there was more than one ship named Amphion. I did a two week USNR "cruise" on the USS AMPHION (AR-13) about 50 years ago. It was at the pier in Norfolk VA.

On edit: Oh my, the AMPHION was sold to IRAN!

Welcome to the site!

Hi Charlie,
I did a search and yes the name has been used a number of times. I didn't realize it came from Greek mythology.

Cheers!
