New Lazarette Covers

I didn't think there was a current group buy going on when I got new hatches for my 22 this past summer. I don't know if there is one now, either, so just in case this is helpful:

I bought two of the hatches (IMTRA in Dream White, #40154) from Defender (www.defender.com). I called Defender because they are a special order, and Defender had them drop-shipped straight to me. I think I had them within two weeks (including ground shipping from coast to coast). Although it was a special order, it was easy -- I just mentioned the name and part number and "sure, no problem."

We love our 07 22 crusier. As noted the rear hatch covers leave a lot to be desired. If anyone is putting in a group order, we would be interested in two of the newer larger covers.

Thanks Sunbeam! Price?

You know, I wanted to put that info in, but I couldn't remember for sure, and it was raining and I was feeling too lazy to go out to the boat and dig up the receipt. However, if I'd "guessed," I was going to say around $130-$140 shipped, which fits with what you found.

Does anyone know if these lazzettes fit the 26' venture model?

I don't know for sure, but if you could post a photo of the lazarette area of your boat (looked in your album but none of the photos happened to show it), along with the dimensions of the existing hatch, for scale, I might be able to tell based on what I know of the IMTRA hatches (I put a pair on my 22).

One thing to know is that the lid is slightly asymmetrical/larger in size on the hinge side as compared to the hatch frame. In other words, if you were to center the frame on an available space, then when you closed the lid the hinge side would project more into the "white space" around the perimeter of the hatch. So if you want it to be "centered" when closed you actually have to set it slightly to one side when installing it. It's not a large amount; maybe 1/2"+, but the way the hatch sits on the raised area of the 22 it's a fairly close fit in the after corners.

Hi dmengland:

They fit our 2007 Cape Cruiser Marinaut upon which your Venture is based, We replaced them last year and it sure is nice to have dry lockers!

Most welcome modification.

I looked all over this site for any info on Lazarette tops for an 87 CD I noticed
One brat with an 87 Angler had them but he hasn’t been here since 2010. Any one know the make/model that fits? The ones I have researched so far will require a little cutting/grinding which I’m not opposed to doing but would rather not!
Cheers

YUP, we (most of us) had to do a little grinding/cutting to get the perfect fit on the new lids. I believe Joel is the one who ordered -- several batches of 10 each, and it is very worth the effort. The first mod I did on my boat and have loved it ever since.

They are probably in this thread, but I didn't go back through it. Joel (C3PO started it and he is the one that ordered them.) You do want the ones where the cover comes down over the mounting frame. That keeps the water out of the lazarette.

Any of these left in someone's storage. We'd love a set for our '06 Cape Cruiser. They can be special ordered from Fisheries Supply or IMTRA for $100 each.
thanks,
Sota

I recently ordered one for my boat. Can't remember from where, but it was ~$90 including tax and shipping. You want "Dream White" color for the best match of color.

Thanks, Steve. These are VERY helpful. Clearly not plug-and-play, but also short of rocket science. I pulled the old hatches today and got the measurements right. Onward.

We have decided the spring upgrade to our 22 Cruiser will be replacing the rear lazarette hatch covers. There has been plenty of discussion on this topic.

North West Industries, the current C- Dory manufacture, recommended the So-Pac Access Hatch through Fisheries Supply. https://www.fisheriessupply.com/imtra-s ... /spa-40105.

These hatches come in two sizes … small @ 11.5 x 7.5” and a medium @ 12.3 x 9.5.” Has anyone used the larger size? The larger size would make battery installation, fuel filter changing etc. a bit easier. However, I am a bit concerned about cutting away more material. I am away from our boat now. If I recall the old hatch size is 11” x 8.5”?

I see a post from 2022 noting a So-Pac Medium from Defender.
Imtra So-Pac 4000 Series Rectangular Access Hatch - SPA-40155 | Defender
Imtra So-Pac 4000 Series Rectangular Access Hatch - SPA-40155
• Size: Medium
• Cutout dimensions: 10" X 12-3/4"
• Overall dimensions: 13-1/8" x 15-1/2"
• Opening dimensions: 9-1/2" X 12-1/4"

Any words of wisdom regarding best size for a 22 (small vs medium) etc. would be appreciated. Once back at the coast I will check measurements and things like cleat location. I think I have a handle on installation techniques thanks to C-Brats.

Thanks…PvL
