 After talking with several C owners , we decided it would be an excellent choice- just bought a C-Dory 22. Thanks for all the input and good advice. I'm sure we will really enjoy the boat. Open to any advice for "Beginners" as this is our first power boat. (We've always sailed)

Welcome to the C-Dory Family! There are quite a few C-Dorys (fellow C-Brats) in the Sequim, Wa. area. I'm certain you'll get acquainted with them quickly.

Hey hardee!

Welcome to the C-Brats! You've made a great choice with the C-Dory!

Many of us are sailors here, and the sailing experience is a great foundation on which to take up power boating. Your learning curve will be much steeper with sailing experience.

Don't be afraid to wade in and ask questions, we're always a friendly and helpful group.

Hope to hear more from you soon!

Joe.

Congratulations, I'm glad we got to talk in Victoria last month. Welcome to the club. As you know, I'm close by and retired! PM or e-mail me if I can help in any way. We would love to see your boat.

Congrats, After 17+ years with my 22"(Adeline) I recommend big, round fenders(Norfloats) and Falcon Mooring Snubbers. They will make docking and mooring a soft, squishy affair and help to keep that beautiful new hull looking pristene.

Welcome aboard hardee - hope to see you on the water sometime. My wife (Terri) is from Sequim, so I get up there once in a while.

If you are not doing anything the 16th of December, join us (some of the C-Brats) for the Lake Washington Locks cruise.

Welcome aboard, Hardee! There are plenty of sailor-types here. There will be a few transitions to be dealt with, but you will find that many of your sailing skills will transfer nicely. Oh, at first you might curse when you turn the wheel with the power off and nothing happens... or when the breeze is "just right" and you lament not turning the motor off; but when you can point the nose into 25 knots of wind and just go anyplace you want - DRY - you will be hooked. You still have a cockpit for kicking back. The view from anyplace in the cabin is great (instead of the one doing galley work feeling like they're in a cave). Easy to launch/retrieve and tow. Did I mention you can push the throttle forward and do 20 knots to get where you want to go? Or poke into a couple feet of water (and still get back out  ).

Keep us posted on your transition. Sometimes I almost feel guilty about how easy this is. Buy a nice round fender and some decent "sausage" types for docking. Practice slow speed, close quarters maneuvering - there isn't the same inertia as most sailboats. When you want to rotate, take the power off before you spin the wheel, then power up. While the trailer stuff is easy, plan to spend a few extra minutes at the ramp, 'cause people are going to come up and ask about your cool boat. I asked my wife about the change from sail to power... she is especially fond of her responsibilites as "jib trimmer" aboard this boat!:wink

And questions you have along the way, this is the place to ask. The good folks here took this sailor-boy under their collective wings and made it easy for us.

Congratulations on your new boat... and good taste!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Welcome to C-Dorys and C-Brats. We're sure you'll enjoy both. This has been our first season with our 22' and it has been great. I went to Friday Harbor the day before yesterday to see about "cold" weather boating in a C-Dory and...voila!, it was warm, dry and just as much fun as the "warm" weather up here in the PNW. Thats a big change from being the ancient mariner gritting your teeth in the face of the gale, i.e. sailing :)

We're on Whidbey Is. and are always looking for new places to go and new people to go with.

You can use your sailing skills on the CD-22 just fine, it is a good sailboat (just sideways). Hopefully you'll learn quickly to stop a few feet away from the dock and let it sail sideways smartly to a gentle rest. I took great delight in docking when a friend's child said, "Mom -- have you ever seen a boat that goes sideways? This one does!"

Have fun with it.
