New pickups, are they dealin'?

We're kinda considering buying a new to three year old F-150 or possibly Silverado 1500.
Does anyone know what sort of discounts smart buyers are getting lately?

Thanks, Steve.

Steve,

I have been looking to see if I could trade up from my '03 Duramax.

I have not seen any deals on the diesels, but gas is a different story.

I have just been looking at a few local dealers, trying to not talk to a sales person.

Maybe I should pretend to be really interested...

Yea,

I figgered now might be an opportunity to move up to a new Duramax as well, but not only are they not dealing on em, there aren't any around to deal on. Go figure. They are shutting down plants all over and they can't make enough diesel trucks to meet the demand.

I guess we'll have to tough it out with the ol Avalanche for a while yet.

Dan

Milehog,

You are too late to take advantage of the cheap pickups.

The unsold inventory is down so the prices are back to normal.

In Arizona this past winter if you purchased a Dodge Cummins diesel at full price they gave you a Dodge 1500 pickup for $1. Also there were lots of new pickups for $12 to 15K.

I missed it also.

You might check for new 2008s still on the lot. We got a great deal on our 2008 F250 diesel last month. They were offering $9000 rebate plus extra incentives.

I have been looking for a new Duramax for months... They are NOT dealing... Something like $4K off the sticker... I am going to let them stew in their juices for a while at that price... I have cash money, I have patience, and I can last longer than those starving dealers who feel that they are entitled to a killing on every sale.. We will see who blinks first...

I am very happy with my '06 Ford F 250 Power stroke diesel. I have 175,000 miles on it so far with only general maintenance recommended in the manual. I was just thinking the other day that I should go get a Ford diesel Excursion with 50 or so thousand miles on it for a cheap price. I'm sure there is someone that thinks they need to get rid of something a few years old and thinks that 50k is a lot of miles. It is the same as the F 250 with lots of room and a great tow vehicle. My truck will get 18 to 20 mpg on the highway and 10 to 12 towing. That is better mileage than I got from my GMC 5.3 gas and it's much bigger. You may also want to check an older 3/4 ton van with the power stroke diesel. That would be a great tow vehicle with a few modifications done to it. Good luck!! :beer

I'll have to second Jeff's suggestion on the f 250 series. I have a 2000 Excursion with the 7.3 L diesel, and it has over 160,000 miles. Lots of pulling power and no problems thus far. Great vehicle for towing--I can lie down in the back and nap while Marie drives, even with lots of gear aboard the truck.

Last year the new Dodge 3500's Dually were about $30,000 for a nicely outfitted truck--haven't looked recently.
