The Port of Everett's new marina director is Jeff Lindhout, whose family owns Triton Marine Industries in Ferndale, which manufactures C-Dory, Osprey, SeaSport, Skagit Orca and TomCat fiberglas power boats.

Lindhout assumed the duties July 2, the port said this week. He replaces Jeff Bearman, who left the $95,000 job in May after just four months, apparently when it became known that Bearman had been convicted of felony theft of state resources in Hawaii in 2002.

Lindhout is a native of northwest Washington. His family owned BoonDocks Boats & Motors on the Bellingham waterfront and acquired the SeaSport manufacturing facility there in 2000. The recession forced a reorganization of the family business in 2010, when Lindhout and two brothers moved operations to Ferndale, drastically scaling back the business but avoiding bankruptcy, according to the Bellingham Herald.

Well that was sudden. I have read several articles about and interviews of bearman. Kind of liked his out look on buisness. Seemed to want engage the recreational fisherman more then previous managers.

You would have thought criminal background checks would have been done before hiring. Then again having served his time should have been enough. How long do you suffer from pass mistake.

Probably as long as you lie about it? Just guessing, but I'd be a little surprised if there wasn't a box to check on an application form, or a question to answer in an interview, regarding any felony record.

BTAIM, the twists and turns in the tangled history of C-Dory continue. Do you suppose we will hear anything soon from the factory about the implications of this development for boat building, sales, and service? It certainly implies at least some kind of ownership or management shakeup as a consequence (or cause?).

I don't think it implies any such thing. I think it says that Jeff has a new (additional) job. My guess is that some extra income for Jeff will be good overall.
 
You're probably right, Roger. Looking at what I wrote, it sounds way snarkier to me this morning than it did last night. :oops: Mostly, I'm just curious, and can't seem to shake the "in-the-dark" feeling. For example, is or is not the factory doing service work. When I called three months ago I was told it wasn't, but the factory website, then and now, says it is. Anybody know for sure?

Te have been changes at Triton, and I don't beleive that Lindouts are involved anymore- at least not in daily operation.

From what I've heard it sounds a bit confusing. If the factory is moving toward boat production only, that's proabbly a good sign.
 
I visited the factory July 5th, Scott Boysen was there, they are NOT doing any service any longer, Scott said "I am just concentrating on building boats." Their capacity (he said) is about four boats a month, and their production is booked through the end of November. There were a couple of C-Dorys in various states of completion, I did not ask whether the Lindhouts were still involved or not, and he did not volunteer.
 
If Triton can survive on 4 boats a month and have a good business, that good. When we bought Journey On in 2005, I was told that their break even point was 20 boats month, which is about 1 per day. That was shortly before everything turned pear-shaped. Let's hope Triton doesn't over expand as happened before.

Any comments as to what boats were in production?

I know of two personally that went to Sportcraft in Oregon and then on to new owners, one of them went to California if I remember correctly, and they have one they are finishing rigging that will soon be on its way to Arizona. Those were both factory fresh deliveries if I recall.

I also dropped by on the 5th of July after spending the 4th with family on Lummi island. I got to peek in to the shop and saw three 22s being built. Lots of activity, and lots of drooling (on my part).

I've wondered the same thing. In the new predatory economy, NEVER allowing citizens to move forward from past mistakes (unless they can buy afford the extortion fees) no matter how minor or long ago, is part of the new police state model. We're ALL "criminals" or soon to be criminals. Half the people I know can't travel to Canada anymore for reasons ranging from: 10 year old DUI charges to 40 year old pot charges (a joint). The authoritarian model needs a reason to run your life and has no problem mining your past to find it.

If this guy did his time, a 10 year old mistake should be forgiven--just my opinion. Does anyone really want to live in a society that won't forgive and forget?
 
The boats on the floor were a CD22 Cruiser and a CD19 Angler. A CD22 Cruiser had just gone out the door to Port Boathouse. Scott probably mentioned something else, but that is all I remember.

The 20 boats a month was to support the massive Auburn factory. The old C-Dory factory on Pacific Hwy S in Kent was a six boat a month plant. There is a striking resemblance between the old Kent C-Dory plant and the current one in Ferndale.

I will say that after looking at a 2009 Venture 23 and a new 2012 Venture 23 at Sportcraft, the glass and gelcoat work and overall attention to detail was much better on the 2012 boat.

That's interesting. Didn't the same people make them? When did Triton take over?

Hi there, not sure who all the crew were, but my 19 angler 2009 model was built by Fluid Marine, very nicely done, and my 2011 22 Cruiser was built by Triton started in Sept 2011 It is an excellent build. No issues at all, no leaks, rattles or bangs! I'm glad to hear they are busy building great boats. George
 
I don't think that the build quality of C-Dorys has ever been better than it is right now, Scott Boysen can pay a lot more attention to the details in the little shop than Scot Reynolds ever could trying to build and market C-Dorys like Bayliners at the rate of 60 a month or whatever. It is a good time to buy a C-Dory new for anybody in the market.
