Congrats. I owned a 22 Cruiser and moved to a Ranger 25 with the 110 Yanmar. I love it and so do the five women I live with. The creaturely comforts are hard to beat for a boat this size. Given today's fuel prices it is still reasonable to operate. You can't beat the support that Ranger is willing to offer. Keep us posted on how your new joy is received.

I loved my 22...had very mixed feelings about selling....I've owned eight boats...all but one wood. Only one had a marine head. Cedar buckets.
And here is the key: except for the CD 22, all had top speeds of about 8kts. So, any worry about speed with the Ranger is not in my thinking.

My partner is thrilled. She is used to the camping life on the 22, and the Ranger seems like a huge yacht to her.

All in all, i see the purchase as a continuing adventure on the Chesapeake.

By the way, my first boat here was an 18 ft. bateau, powered by a 9hp Briggs and Stratton...no reverse, just forward. With a cooler, a bucket and a blue tarp we went all over this Bay...

I have followed your "adventures" on Valkyrie on and off. We will look forward to seeing you at the gathering. Actually, i'm a little embarrassed to have such a "yacht"...have to scuff it up a bit...
It does have a nice cockpit for banjo playing...and maybe i'll take up fishing!

You must be psychic....for years i've been fooling with a lyric to a song to be titled "The Old Bateau" These boats, some still around, were the ''entry'' crabbing and fishing boat for young kids planning to be watermen. flat bottom big skiffs, heavily built..and they'd do about five knots with the 9hp BandS....and burn a gallon of gas a day.
So, thanks for the prod...maybe i'll break it in June 7!

Gratitude Yacht Sales has a good rep for checking boats out well before the sale..and they are just a couple of miles away, so that is good.
Tomorrow the head of their service dept is coming to the boat to go over things in detail with me..nuts and bolts. I'd appreciate any advice on things i should ask to have explained, or any specific checks i should make while he is with me.

here's a big congratulations on the ranger tug!
linda and i will be attending the june 6 chesapeake bay gathering, so, with that i mind, i ask that you hide your boat from my wife while we're in the area, as, i'm not ready to spend $150,000. just quite yet. we've only seen pictures of these boats and to see one up close might be fatal.
we do however appreciate and acknowledge the outstanding commitment you have shown by advancing the economy into positive ground.
i thank for in advance for helping me out regarding this very troubling matter.

Is that the same Ranger they had at the Bay Bridge Boat Show? My wife took one look and fell in love with it.She will be sad to know its gone. Glad you have it. I'm sure we can find another one. :teeth
 
Same Ranger...they had it at Chesapeake show...and if someone had made a very firm bid, it would have been gone.

Re: tours and rides...open house, certainly, and time permitted, a ride out on the Bay.

Tom - Let them know that they can write down their desired appointment times for a demo ride on a $100 bill and turn them in to you.

I wouldn't charge for a ride...
BUT... a good friend of mine who takes lots of friends out fishing here on the Bay has put a plastic jar in a prominent spot in his cockpit..it is marked: "Marine Fuel Contribution Jar"

Congrats, Tom. We especially love the most appropriate name you gave to your new family member. My, we would sure enjoy being at the Bay with you next month, singing along with your strumming. We'd especially enjoy the inauguration of "The Old Bateau."
