Now that I have retired again I have had some time to make a new table for Raven Dancer.
The table is 3/4" maple trimmed in mahogany, the compass rose inlay is 1/8" thick mounted on a piece of 3/8" marine plywood. The Rose is 12" in diameter, and made out of 4 different exotic hardwoods.
I'm in the process of putting a clear coat poly on the entire project now.
I can't figure out how to put a picture in this post so if you want to see it you will have to go to Raven Dancer photo album and look at page two on the bottom.
Dave.

Very nice work.

My kind of art. Can I ask, what are the one or two tools/machines that are your favorites for this kind of work? Larry

Hello Big Dave,

That is fine artwork! You do great work. Did you use a vacuum system to clamp it?

Thanks for sharing,

david

Thank you all for the very nice comments. The table and setting the inlay took about 7 weeks and I'm still not finished. It has been a very fun and frustrating project, but I always say if you know what your doing your not learning anything.
If I had to make and sell them they would be priced so high no one would want one !
I would not have been able to do the project without my bandsaw, router, table saw, squares, clamps, and assorted jigs.
I will put some more pictures in once the mounting hardware is attached and it's in the boat.
Thanks again for all the nice comments.
