Heading off with my 15 Y/O neighbor boy for an overnight at Sucia. Leaving Guemes Is. about noon. This should be a good test of the new Webasto heater.
Steak and mashed potatoes w gravy, and some good deserts. I guess I will have to drink the champagne by myself.

Enjoy your champagne at Sucia, David! We'll be at Sucia, weather gods permitting, the weekend of January 15 - 17. We are in Omak at the RV park right now, here is where we are spending New Year's Eve (it is 15 degrees outside but just about 70 degrees inside, thanks to a couple of electric heaters!). I just took this photo this morning. Omak is COLD but seems to always be sunny! That is the famous Omak Stampede Suicide Hill in the background...

At the dock. One other c dory 25 from Bellingham just arrived. Just 2 of us here. Didn't know them. But I do now. Heater is wonderful. 3 bars on the Verizon network.

Before we left Sucia I spoke again with David the owner of the other 25 at the dock. His boat was previously "
Helen O. Pat and I fished off of her about 5 years ago and caught several salmon on the Columbia.

Heater was great. Kept the cabin and V berth at 62 all night for about a gallon of diesel.

Did you have to do anything special to make sure that you were connected to Verizon and not Rodgers? I have had that happen near Friday Harbor and because Sucia is closer to Canada...

Yep, I had that happen when anchored at Stuart Island... I had a great wireless broadband signal - just didn't know it was coming from Canada... until the bill came! :disgust

They should reverse the Rogers charges if you contact them and explain the circumstances. Our Verizon phones used to connect to Rogers at Birch Bay some of the time. Now they work well throughout the San Juans and in Birch Bay which also is pretty darn close to Canada too. I am guessing Verizon has been pretty busy improving service in the vicinity of the border.

Incidentally the news is once again FULL of the Verizon iPhone rumor, apparently more than a rumor (heard that one before?) that the announcement will come from Apple next week in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show for a mid-February release. So Jimbo, get ready for THAT one to heat up again!

Yes, I am waiting for that. After much consideration, I have decided to go for the iPhone over Android because it integrates seamlessly with my Mac and MobileMe, and because every app I want is available on iPhone, and not always on Android.

I am a big fan of open source (e.g. Android, Linux) but in this case the open source is mostly of benefit to the cell phone manufacturers, not to the consumer. Unfortunately Android's open source heritage (read: free) has created expectations that the apps should be free also. Thus it is my opinion that apps from the Apple store are more likely to be higher quality because the authors are more likely to make money with them.

Not trying to start a religious war here, just laying out the reasons why I think I, personally, will go with iPhone when it comes out. Of course, Verizon's pricing will also factor in.

They're both good phones... and more alike than they are different. After the last year with the Droid, it does all I need, so I won't be in any hurry to switch. And, that's from a devoted Mac guy. The carrier is key for me.
