Perhaps we should change the name of "That's Life" to "The Airing of the Grievances" and simply not allow any posts at all on it.tresspassing_oil.sized.jpg

I call plagarism! I own the copyright on this photo's original idea (2003)!

It might be time to remove the No Rules tagline from the front page. From here on out, any political commentary goes straight to the trash.

I learned my lesson about pointless arguments on here quite a few years ago and have been able to refrain from posting that crap ever since. We have been tolerant of a lot of things, much to the chagrin of a vast majority of our active members, but now I am a crotchety old man who would rather click one delete button than explain over and over in email and PM replies why we let it go.

Sorry, but this isn't the place.

First post on the thread. Although, in my mind, the "no politics" decision has come from some people not being able to "just be nice" when they discuss politics. Their house; they get to make or change the rules.

Seems to me that is should be easy to be respectful of our friends' house rules.

FWIW, I don't think the straw that broke the camel's back in this case fell outside of the "Just Be Nice" rule. There were comments here and there that pushed things a bit, but I don't recall anyone being out and out nasty. Tyboo (as quoted above) speaks to "pointless arguments" and I can't argue with that notion if that indeed was the way he was looking at it. The discussion in the thread had devolved to two sides that were never going to agree with each other unless more actual evidence/proof was allowed to see the light of day and that's unlikely to happen at this point - hence "pointless argument".

As best as I can tell, I was the straw that broke the camel's back. I feel my post was civil - but sure, I did "call out" what I felt to be an untrue and unfair characterization of people who disagreed with the previous poster's position... and I offered additional information from someone who was (as best as I could tell) reasonably unbiased... and unquestionably qualified to offer the opinions that he did, and those opinions happened to match well with several of the arguments I made throughout the thread.

But Tyboo is right - the conversation was doomed to drag on and on with no conclusion - and I respect his decision to pull the plug, and agree with the "his house, his rules". Sure, I was disappointed and even felt "censored" when it first happened, but I get it. This forum is a great resource for C-Dory and related boating info, and I'm very happy to have it available for that purpose.

First thought: Aw shucks.

But then, most chatter on any topic, especially politics, is just a matter of
opinion; merely semantics. However, there is a growing movement for some
to use words (power-speech) to their advantage at the expense of others.

Thus, more debate:

Speech is a weapon in the conflict between groups that are unequal.

vs

Speech is a tool of cognition and communication for individuals who are free.

Aye.
