Rugerbum, Thanks for post the full size. I thought I had seen that boat, but could not tell for sure. Now. Yup. In Rolfe Cove on Matia Island. No response on the radio. Could not be sure anyone was on board.

Some Mormon connection with the name of the boat. If the guy was LDS and wasn't a cheerful happy communicator, I'll need to call his bishop. We Mormons are all cheerful happy communicators...unless someone cuts close across our bow out on the water, then watch out :D

We considered getting a 60' yacht as a tender for Wild Blue, but reconsidered, thiniking that would just look silly on WB's cabintop... we went for an 8.5' inflatable instead. 8) It's a matter of proportions.

If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would show our 14 being towed behind our bigger boat. No place to stow it on board, but it tows really well.

Put it in your album, Lyle, and one of us will post it here. That 14 is just a neat little boat!

Jim,
Thanks for the offer. I have the pictures at the office and I'll get them into an album soon. You know how it is in a small business, I think I have time to do it and another urgent project gets put in front of it.

The C-Dory 14 works great as a dinghy. It is easy to tow, fits across the swim step of the bigger boat and is a lot faster and more fun than an inflatable.

Last year we anchored in Westcott Bay on San Juan Island and didn't move the boat for a week. We used the 14 to fish, explore and go to town for supplies. It has the look and feel of a toy, and it is just plain fun to use. Like all C-Dorys, it is a conversation starter. I have had people stand right next to the boat and insist that it was a 16, "because C-Dory never made a 14".

The 16 is a more practical boat for most uses and that's probably why there weren't more 14's made. The pilot house design limits interior space. Two people fit easily, more than 3 and you need a shoehorn. The 14 falls off of plane very quickly, probably due to the short length. I've added a Dolfin this winter and we'll see if that helps. It also doesn't take a very tall wave to be taller than the boat. We went across a channel to fish until the current and wind changed. Coming back across wasn't frightening, but it felt like riding a cork in a washing machine.

Even with its shortcomings, I've never had a boat that was this much fun. Amazingly, as small as it is, it still feels like a C-Dory. If I was doing more fishing, I would probably want to tow a 16 Angler, but for our life right now, it is perfect.

Lyle-

You said "The C-Dory 14 works great as a dinghy."

Sounds like a lot of fun, especially since the bigger boat is so much harder to move around and use to run errands, to fish from, etc.,in.

I would imagine the one thing you can't do in the CD-14 as a dinghy is run ashore onto the beach and let the tide go out, then push it or carry it back over the beach/rocks and relaunch. Or go exploring up small creeks, etc.

Do you have a dinghy for your dinghy?

Joe. :teeth :thup
