O Canada

If the exchange rate (currently yielding almost C$1.25 for US$1.00) continues into summer, it seems this would be a good time to be cruising Canadian waters. I know the cost of gas in Canada has been higher than US gas for the same quantity in the past, and I suppose that continues, but the currency exchange sure seems good. We are currently thinking about some rather extensive cruising in Canada this summer. Others also?

Maybe we will finally meet up! Our plan is to head to Prince Rupert--and launch there, but we may end up further South--depending on weather. Nice to hear about the favorable exchange rate--maybe I'll not pay $8 a gallon for fuel this year!

Bill & El,

We'll definetely be in the Broughton area again this Summer, probably most of July at least. I'm thinking of buying and stashing some Canadian dollars now in case this good fortune reverses course. We will probably be with a few other C-Brats. Hope to see you there.

We're still in the "negotiations" stage on where to cruise this summer... but finding our way into Canada is in both of our plans. Just working on west or east.

Kate is up for a 4-5 day trip to Princess Louisa this summer. At least that is what she said last week. Maybe following a July or August CBGT. Kitty is coming too.

Jim -
Canada is a BIG country - when you say east are you thinking about maybe Ontario, or back to Quebec?

Others - looks like a gang heading up to the BC area. Great! Dreamer's idea of stashing in some Canadian dollars right now might be a gem!

Anybody going north from Sequim area, we will be glad to help out any way we can. Vehicle parking or checking, What ever, 'cause we will be thinking about you while you are gone.

We are going to go up to Butchart Gardens for a long weekend some where in there. Would like to go back up to PLI, or up to Port Alberni and go out to Bamfield from there.

I'm thinking of the Broughtons in July as well. Also may join John Schuler for some northern cruising on Paradise. Bob and Marie, when are you thinking of going to Prince Rupert?

Warren

Our plan is to go north to Alaska starting in May after the Friday Harbor gathering. I want to leave SE Alaska for the run south about mid August. Should be south of Cape Caution by Sep 1, and back in Everett by Oct 1. Depending on the weather, of course.

I plan on being in Canada much of the summer. Would like to go north to the Broughtons once or twice but mainly Gulf Is. to Desolation. Lets make some plans at Friday H.

Sounds like a great idea to discuss final plans at Friday Harbor, John. And this thread can continue to kick around various ideas and dates.

Anyone thinking of going to the outside (west side) of Vancouver Island?

We will definitely be in BC waters as often as possible this summer in company of a number of the Brats posted above. Still working on dates.

Merv & Kathy.

GOT to get retired...I think I will work through the summer, take a week off in July for Birch Bay, and two weeks off in September for Lake Powell. This working thing sure gets in the way of doing all the things you folks are talking about here...

Caryn and I are seriously thinking of heading up to Desolation Sound this summer. If so, this will be our big cruise of the summer. You're right Pat, we've got to do something about this work thing. It really gets in the way of boating and enjoying the short Seattle summers.

Someday -- dunno if this summer -- I would like to trailer the boat to the Ucluelet area.

The Broken Island Group is an awesome area to cruise in. Last summer I boated there from the San Juans on a 2 week fishing trip on a 38 Ft Bayliner with some friends. Beautiful area just made for C-Dory cruising.

David, Warren,

Absolutely agree with the West Coast idea but have not yet regained enough courage and clean underwear to face that road again after last time doing it on ice with loony logging trucks herding us along

Maybe launching at Albirni is the answer.

Merv

For those of you not located in the PNW, I have a strong suspicion that this mega-outburst of enthusiasm for cruising the San Juans, Gulf Islands, Desolation, Broughtons, West Coast and North to Alaska (wish I could insert the appropriate sound clip here. Pat knows the one I mean) has been brought about by the fact that we just had two consecutive days where the sun came out and there are fish being caught.

Not to mention that it's raining on the Californicators which always cheers us up :smiled

Yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Now watch it snow, but I don't care, I have finished the Admiral's Greenhouse. Nearly finished the interior work on KII and I'm ready...
