Off The Radar

Charlie,
I'm not so sure about the moral issues tag. I'm just tired of getting gleaned by Pa. in taxes etc. I would doubt I'd be claiming unemployment or welfare from lets say South Dakota. What is funny I think is I buy a new vehicle in Pa. pay the sales tax on it. I sell the vehicle used 10 years later and they get sales tax again. For me thats a moral issue. Poiticians can retire well before Joe Blow can and receive a full pension. Joe Blow has to wait till he is 67 for receive full social security benefits. If our government (all parties) had a moral bone in their bodies this country would not be in the fix it's in. Sorry for the rant.

Dave, I agree with what you said. The moral issue for me would be living in VA, getting services (roads, fire/police protection, schools (even though I have no kids in school), etc) from there and claiming another state as a residence and paying no taxes in that state (it has no taxes) OR in Virginia where I am truly living. It's a different ball game for the military, they are someplace because they got sent there by the Govt. They didn't choose to live there.

I agree that taxes are too high, mostly because our govt spends too much on things that most of us think are unnecessary. We can and should fix that at our earliest opportunity. I think that a Balanced Budget Amendment and term limits would be a good start! Will take awhile to meet the former requirement, the latter could be done immediately!!

No rant on your part, hope you felt better! Sometimes it helps me, sometimes it just keeps me spun up!

The Escapee's RV route (don't really have to have an RV--a truck and a boat will work)--has been well tested in court, and holds up. It is in Texas, although they have some specific parks in: Summerdale, Alabama; Congress, Arizona: Bushnell, Florida: Branson, Missouri; Deming, New Mexico; Heiskell, Tennessee; Livingston, Texas; & Pecos, Texas. Some of these have fee simple lots and some renewable lease--for RV pads and small houses.

If you use the Livingston, TX, as a "legal address"--you will have the voter registration, car registration (and do have the problem of Texas inspection yearly).

Small boats have gone down the coast--and it is generally easier to go down than "up"--however the last time we went down (from PNW to Mexico) we had some days of southerlies--but no wind at the major capes and all of the way along the Pacific Baha Coast. It is as much a matter of range and being able to wait for good weather. But I had interrupted the post as doing it by RV/boater camper etc...

I am a advocate of "taking off" and doing what your passion in life is when you can. Later you may have issues with parents, children or our own health which prevent doing what you really want to. Do it when you can!

Tennessee can be added to your list no income tax from pensions or S/S and very cheap property taxes . They do tax your dividends and interest at a 6% max .The tenn river systems and all the lakes make this a 3 season wonderland . Just go to fl.tx ,Az for winter .
