Off Topic: RV Names

I don't know if many of you name your RVs, but Diana and I have called both our old and new Airstream, the View Finder. I believe that Jim B gets credit for that name. But I digress... After multiple trips to the desert, we have decided that View Finder, while appropriate isn't what we want to call the new Flying Cloud. With a bit of soul searching, I realized that one, I drive slowly out there, and two, I really like the desert. Hence the new name to be... The Desert Tortoise.

I am inclined to have some type of a decommissioning and renaming ceremony, much like that which we use when a CDory changes hands or names. Of course, this will require the use of special incantations and alcoholic beverages. Any suggestions for the details of the ceremony? Here's the beast in its native habitat.

I always thought a good name for an Airstream would be... Baked Potato.

We know other folks with Airstreams - they kinda remind me of C-Dory owners: loyal supporters of the brand. They trade up and down in size, but rarely go to a different brand. And if they do, they generally eventually come back to an Airstream.

View Finder was one of the names we considered when we ordered our C-Dory. I recall seeing a TomCat here now that has that name. Since we retired after 32 years in the photography business, it was time to move on (for reference, the Corsair traimaran sailboat that we had before the C-Dory was named Wide Open, also a photographic reference, as well as the whole speed thing, and the 20' beem).

We have owned a bunch of RVs over the years, but our current 5th wheel is the first one we've given a name... there is a big "L S" on the front cap. While going down the road one day, we were listening to satellite radio when "Love Shack" by the B-52s came on. Shortly thereafter, my Mother asked what the "LS" stood for...
Oh, the Love Shack is a little old place
Where we can get together
Love shack, baby
(A love shack, baby)
Love shack, baby, love shack...

Um, that was probably more than you wanted to know. :embarrased

At one time we had an American Dream with a personalized plate: AMDREAM. Seemed pretty obvious to me. And easy to remember when we registered at RV parks. But, one day while fueling up, a guy in the next lane looked at the plate and said, "I'll bet there's a good story for that name, huh?"

Desert Tortoise is good. I suppose the Silver Surfer isn't in the ranking, huh? 8)

Have fun with the travels, by land and water! :thup Pretty sure any renaming of the RV entails some howling at the moon!

Best wishes,
Jim

No plan to name the new Fox Mountain 5er we just brought home Saturday..but maybe that will change after we have had her out a time or two. This weekend our plan is for Dash Point State Park.

Pat,

A manufacturer's name like Fox Mountain just begs out loud for something more personalized. Foxy comes to mind immediately, but there has to be something better than that. Good looking rig!!! Did you get a new truck to pull it?

Steve

No new truck yet - but we are using the 1993 F250 that came with our "disposable" Alpenlite we bought a couple of years ago, it does fine (so far). New truck (1 ton diesel for sure) when we sell the house, which goes on the market about this time next year! Seriously thinking about moving retirement up from December 31 to June 30 if the dang house sells!

Steve, I think you missed the boat. You should have bought a "toy hauler". Think of all the desert traveling gear you could have carried.

If your boat is "Constant Craving" shouldn't the RV be something related? or, perhaps desert related. How about "Snake Dodger"?
